Who Has A Mustang II?

Who out there has a Mustang II? Who has had a Mustang II? Tell us the year you have had and what you liked and dislike about them.

I have never had a Mustang II, but I always want a 1977 Mustang II fastback with a 302.

I currently hold registration on four II's (78 T-top, 78 coupe, 78 Ghia, 77 Cobra II), and I've owned at least four others in the past (76 coupe, 76 Fastback, 78 KC, 76 Cobra II).

Dislikes: Stock power, lack of power options, lack of respect for the car from most other Mustang owners (usually through ignorance), the lack of parts availability

Likes: The lines, the style, the cockpit-like feeling in the driver's seat, the simplicity of maintenance, the relative unique-ness, the potential locked up in the 2.8, the common bond shared amongst II owners, the loyalty we have for our much-maligned little gems, the look on most Mustang owners' faces when its pointed out how similar the lines of the '05+ Stangs are to the II...

Lack of power is something that was in car in the 70s. I like the MustangII. I don't like the small tires. If you put some bigger tires on the car, it would look bad ass.You would have to make the body fit the tires. Put a 5.0 in it with about 400 horses. Jack it up in the back alittle. I would like to see a Mustang II done that way.

I know pretty much all cars in the 70's were underpowered (I'm old enough to remember the 70's), and the II wasn't the worst offender, but it IS one of my dislikes.

205/50R15's will fit a II and look good, but personally I think anything larger starts to look "donk". Jacking up the back? Destroys half the handling on a II, but to each his own..
My T-top was originally a 5.0 (yes, the 5.0 designation did NOT begin with the Foxbody!) but a modded 2.8 with more balls than the stock engine had is going in its place.

I just bought a 77 Mustang II, w/ a 302 in it. Not running, but the engine has a lot of upgrades in it already. Shouldn't be too hard to get running again. biggest project is gonna be the interior. lots of wiring/panels/door locks/carpet to fix up and put back together. Should be sweet when I get it all finished up though.

We used to have a pair of 1977 Mustang IIs. One with the factory 302 - 4 speed and one with a 351W and a 4 speed that was a former V6 4 speed car.

Yep, from a V6. We needed to get a special pilot bushing and use the 302 bellhousing but other than that it worked great. A friend of mine used to have a 76 with a 429. I think he still has the car sitting in a storage shed.

Actually the 429 isn't a bad fit. The exhaust ports point down more than a small block so the headers fit better than you'd think. The hard part is changing spark plugs and wires.

I guess the typical grinding, clunking and going into gear hard would be warning signs that your trans is heading south.

I'm not sure. I'm assuming a C6 but I never really asked.

i had a 77 fastback with a 302. it was jacked up in the back with staggered mags. i think 14's in back and 13's in front. i loved the car, but in my youth i was stupid and let it sit only because of a blown head gasket. i didn't know anything about working on engines back then. wish i still had it.

They are still cheap. You can get one. Don't let the I wish part slow you down. Make it happen.
