Cool

echoooooooo....

Well, since traffic in here seems so light lately, I might as well post a bit of progress on my collection of II's, eh?

I'm now down to only owing another $375 on my King, and I've been doing some work on it this past weekend.
Swapped out all the chrome trim on the front end (grille, headlight buckets) and added the grille snake.
Laughed my ass off at the look on Forgottenpony's face (the guy who sold me the King) when I unbolted the hood scoop and spun it around, followed by scratching "x"'s with the studs, climbing onto the fender, and boring new holes in the hood with a cordless drill. I never did like the way Ford mounted the hood scoops in '78...
Fixed the hard-starting issue. Turns out the positive battery cable wasn't properly crimped into the battery connector...
Fired it up, and it does NOT sound like the stock 140 hp driveline (confirmed by the rubber I left behind when I goosed it in drive...at least 30' of rubber with a cold engine and 2 year old gas), although there's a WICKED ticking coming from the top end...I guess I'm going to start planning to swap in my E7 heads, '68 4bbl intake and Holley 600, and the MSD 6A, along with a new oil pump for peace of mind.

More later....

Talking

Not empty...FAR from crowded, though. Actually, according to some schmuk in that (moved) poll thread, there's only five II's left....I own five II's....so does that mean I've cornered the market?

To continue from above...

Just gotta seal up the lenses for my all-red-taillight conversion. If I had realized it was this easy, I'd have done it years ago Definitely going to have to do sets for the rest of the II's n my corral now. Its gonna hurt when I start butchering more stock lenses for them...

I think I've gotten a gastank for project "Spare Parts" now. This "car" is actually just a rolling chassis with title. Pretty much EVERYTHING required for the build is going to be a) supplied by my spare parts collection, b) donated to the cause, or c) acquired through parts trading. So far, I've got the shell, registration, engine, tranny, rear end, fenders, header panel, grille, mirrors, doors, glass, trim, interior, dash, seats, wiring, taillights, rims, tires, and now the gastank. About all I still need to scrounge/fabricate are engine mounts and exhaust flanges to drop a carbed 3.8 V6 into a 77 fastback. For a grand total of whatever the transfer fee comes to, plus Sweet F.A.

Hopefully this weekend I can start tracing down some wiring issues in the King (may be as simple as a couple of burnt fuses and bulbs, and maybe a relay), upgrade the alternator, install the dr. side rear spat, swap in the door panels from my other 78 T-top, secure the rear and one side louvre, and put some fresh gas in the tank.

Then maybe take it out and lay another patch with it

Be nice! Love is for confused people. LUST is honest

So, I got the all red tail lights installed, made a second set, and lined up donors to make the other two sets I'll be making.

Not so happy about the wiring, though. Looks like I'm going to be furthest ahead to just rip the entire lighting harnesses out and replace them. Good thing I know the ones I just pulled out of the 78 coupe are good, eh?

The King fires up a lot better now that I've run it a few times. I think it was just being bitchy for being parked so long. Still got the horrific tick in the dr. side head, but I'm not going to worry about that until it either frags or I'm ready to swap the E7's, intake, carb, and MSD into it. Its not my daily driver, and I'm not in a hurry to drop more money into it than I have to for now. There's also a leak somewhere in the hatch seal. The lower quarter panel on the pass. side is currently full up to the marker light lense with water. Gotta find that and take care of it quick. Bad seals and a temperate rainforest in spring is just a bad combination.....

And I think Forgottenpony has forgiven me for his near heart attack when I started ripping into my hood with the drill...Last night, he tossed me the keys to HIS King, and told me to go for a spin. Now THAT was fun! (Its NOT stock...)

Damn, do I have to carry this damned forum by myself?

WTF!!! Maybe I HAVE cornered the II market

Today I pulled the rear lighting harness out of the coupe (for the King), pulled the taillights (more all-red taillight fodder), pulled the trunklid (and just now I gave it to Forgottenpony...a trunklid does me no good when all I'm building are fastbacks, eh?), and pulled the marker lights and FORD letters. I think tomorrow I'll finish pulling the doors, spray the seals on all the glass with WD-40 (softens the tar so they pull out more easily), and maybe pull the rest of the dash...

SO, my77stang, WHERE DID YOU DISAPPEAR TO???

kewl. I check this forum, but i'm a 65 owner =p I think what you're doing is kewl, the mustang II's are rare, and it's good to see people restomodding them.

Thanks man. Is yer 65 a fastback or a coupe? I like the early coupes almost as much as the II's.

Glad to know I'm not totally alone

DEFINITELY having a blast! Tony (Forgottenpony) is providing the motivation I need to actually move some of my II projects forward for a change, and I've been doing minor work on some of his II's to offset my outstanding bill for the King, so its all good, eh?

"I" don't have a spare valance, but I'm pretty sure Tony has one. He's also about to send a good-condition valance to a guy who is making a mold to reproduce them in fiberglass. I'll mention your need to him this evening and see what's what on that for ya But if I had a spare set of connectors, they'd be earmarked for one of my own herd. I may end up taking some measurements and talking to a buddy of mine with a decent welder...

What do ya need? I prefer not to ship across the border, and most of my collection is definitely in the "used" category, but I have the usual II-owners collection of spare parts. After counting up my taillights, I've discovered that I have enough to do all red taillight conversions on ALL FOUR of the II's I'm keeping, and STILL have a spare set of stockers. I may end up chucking out a bunch of the taillight bezels, though. No way in Hell I'm ever going to need NINE sets....

I must be old or something. I still don't have a clue what "nutruel" is. Or even what bloody language it is....

My top priority is my own entertainment. If the rest of you want to tag along, that's fine by me, eh? Just don't kill my buzz

I mentioned to Tony that you need a valance. He just pointed at his spare one and smiled. I suspect you'd have to wait to see how the fiberglass molds turn out...

Well, once the last set of all reds are done, I will have a grand total of ONE pair of stock taillights left, but there's no way in Hell I'd part with them. I'll let you know when I run across a pass. side in decent shape. If you want to pay postage on a bezel, I'd send you one of mine, but due to size and weight, it probably isn't worth it for just the bezel...

The second set of all reds I made took about an hour and a half, plus epoxy curing time overnight. And that was after smoking a beer to get started. It REALLY doesn't take long

My collection seems fairly small compared to several others I know of. Tony currently owns at least 4, in addition to one or two his son owns. Another guy I've dealt with for several years now in Alberta must have over half a dozen as well. It usualyy starts as owning one, then buying a parts-car...and not having the heart to rip it to pieces for parts.

I hope we get decent weather this weekend. The wife is going to her parents' place for Easter, so I have pretty much all weekend to either work on my King or help Tony work out a few more bugs in his resto-modding...

Just take the ones you're going to pillage the lenses from and hacksaw the square red lense off flush with the base, gently remove the amber lense from the "good" one, and cement the red lense into place. Use the bezel to align the new lense while it cures, and install I will be putting in a set of driving lights at the bottom of the rear window to replace the backup lights (won't see them unless they're on, due to the rear louvres...)

No idea on the valance costs yet. He's still working on getting the molds made.

Now, I'm off to replace some wiring harnesses...
