K, here's a silly queston for you

...can I turn my little "hood scoop" arund so it's facing forward and maybe get a little more air in there... or just because it looks cool... without any negative consequences?

Yes, the scoop can be pointed either way, and the opening cut out for flow.

The only "negatives" are that you will need to drill new holes for the mounting studs (if you position it relatively carefully, the scoop will cover the old holes) and the hole you cut under the scoop for the airflow.

I dislike the cowl-facing 78 placement, so the FIRST thing I did upon getting the Rat Snake was pull the scoop off and grab a drill. The guy that sold it to me almost had an aneurism. Mind you, his reactions were remarkably similar when I grabbed his Sawzall to make the scoop (semi-) functional, and when I spent a few hours with a mini-sledge adding a bit of much-needed clearance for the rear tires

Well, not really (I'm kinda useless at the digital camera thing), but it looks pretty much IDENTICAL to the 76-77 hood scoop placement (until you lift the hood and see the extra set of holes, unless of course you do like I did and Sawzall out the area under the scoop for ventilation...)

That's exactly what I'm planning on doing whenever I get around to it...but my '96 GT gets all the attention now haha. Plus I try to follow the rule of not taking apart both my cars and leaving me with no means of transportation lol.

Its a REALLY simple swap that takes less than a half hour, man.

One wrench, four drilled holes, and a minute and a half of optional Sawzall work.

And since you don't have to remove the hood, you can stop and take the car for a rip with no more than 30 seconds of notice

Does a stock hood not have a hole under the scoop? Was it there for decoration only? The area under my scoop is open...

Take a close look between the studs at the "open" end of the scoop. I bet you'll find that either the scoop is not original, or its had the section of plastic removed and a hole cut in the hood
