New here and need help buying a Mustang

Hello I'm looking at getting my first Mustang and need a little advice. I only have 6 grand to play with so I'm looking at older models that need work and allot of miles but must be a manual. I test drove a few in my budget and over budget this weekend but the ones in budget were years 2000 to 2003. I'm also considering getting one with a salvage title or major body damage.

My main concern is 2 of them have a weird whining sound coming from the transmission or something that sounds like my grandpas old truck. Does that mean it's low on transmission fluid? Maybe the clutch or trany is going bad?

Some other mustangs had a weird green color clutch light come on and off when shifting. Sign the clutch is going or normal?

A few others had allot of oil on the motor and some dripping oil on the floor, could be or a leaky gasket but not sure.

Other issues are just dents, cracked paint on hood, one window wont close, rust, clutch stinks. My main concern is to avoid major issues that will stop the car from being on the road. It's going to be a project car anyway so not looking or expecting something perfect. I'm planning on redoing the exhaust, air intake, header and learning what mods push out the most horse power. I'm also considering making it turbo or supercharged. I cant wait to get the right one and get started! Oh yeah of course I have a nice new alpine stereo and speakers waiting for it already. If you could direct me to the right forms or give me any advice I would be extremely grateful. this is my first post.

Welcome to the site.
Do you want a sixxer or a v8?
Are the new edge (99-04) mustangs the kinda you want? Or would you prefer an older year with maybe less miles?
Do you want to pay all the 6k for the car?

You can get a pretty decent one for 6k, where all the parts work. Some clutches will have abuse yea, but if the window doesnt roll up and there are alot of other problems i would make sure the price is right since your fixing it up. Unless you want it as a daily driver, then at least have all the right things working for now.

if you want one that needs a lil work ill sell you my 2000 v6 if you are nearby.. the motor is very sound and runs like a champ.. theres a dent above the rear drivers side tire b/c someone hit me in the parking lot and just ran off... and the fuel door color doesnt match b/c i had to replace it and got one for 30 bucks.. also it needs suspension work.. just shocks and stuff like that nothing big..

I am looking for pretty much the same thing (99-04, V6, up to 6k, under 100k miles.) I have noticed manuals (at least where i live) go for less even with everything being the exact same as an auto.I have seen a few GT's that run fine and don't need any major work on craigslist for places in Maryland. If you can get some specs up here in detail and possibly live somewhere near Maryland i could help you look (since im looking also.)

I would definately find a cheaper GT vs a nicer V6 - IMO?
