New guy from San Diego

Hey guys, my name is James and i live in San Diego. I just got back from a used car tent sale, and i test drove a 2001 (i think) Mustang GT. The power i could feel with this car was insane. I drive a ford explorer (05), and it was a gift, and i'm gonna be giving it to my foster brother soon.. And i'm looking into used cars. I recently have looked into all sorts, but after feeling that 260hp underneath me, i absolutely love this car.

I know the Mach 1 and Cobra are faster than the GT, but i'm not gonna be racing a whole lot, so that's not my concern.. i'm just looking for a car thats less than 10 grand, looks good, and that I could have some fun in. Do you think the Mustang GT is for me? I think the look is pretty good of the mustang (i like celicas better, but i learned in algebra that 260>140), but the sound of that engine and the way is drives takes the cake.

Other cars i drove:
Civic - nothing special, never liked civics.
Prelude - VTec is sick, but i'm 6'2 and my heads like touching the roof lol.
Mazda 6 - cool, comfortable and nice, but no power compared to the mustang.
Dodge Neon - It was ok, pretty good acceleration, but once again, nothing special.

One concern i do have is that it is made by ford, and i have heard a lot about fords being unreliable. How many miles do you think is the normal life of a 4th gen GT? What do you recommend is the highest i should buy a used one with?

you can pick up a 5L fox pretty cheap and get TONS of parts for it cheap

i've been reading a lot of stuff talking shit about the mustang's handling. What is your guys' take on that? I drove it and i thought it was fine if not good.. but i haven't driven a whole lot of cars so it's hard for me to make a judgment on that. Do you guys think a 4th gen Mustang GT is for me? I love the fact that it's RWD, and the torque and power just feels great. I will be using it to get to school, won't be racing, but i will probably mod the appearance so it looks good and maybe do small performance changes (CAI, exhaust, etc). I love the feel of the car, but the interior is so-so. What is your guys' favorite thing about your 4th gen mustang (gt, cobra, or w/e).

Also, i have had people recommend that if i liked driving the mustang, i should test out an LS1 Camaro or trans am.. what do you guys think?

You should look into a 5.0 fox. Those are going for relaitively cheap and you can mod the piss out of them with little money!
