What's up guys I'm a bit new to mustangs. I'm 16 getting my license in the next few months, I've been driving for around 1 1/2 years now. Ready to get my first car, I'll be either taking a loan from the bank or do monthly payments with the dealer, since I have a job and will be paying for everything. My plan with the mustang is to get it insured under my parents name and just have me a as a driver. I'll be paying for the insurance though. I haven't really made up my mind yet, but I know I want an early 2000s mustang, I'm not sure what you would call that look. I really wanted a 03-04 cobra but I've been told not to get something so powerful. How much money do you think it would take to get a GT up around the power of a cobra? Thanks.

the body style you are talking about is the SN-95 "new edge" style.. and it would probably cost more than you are willing to pay to make it keep up with a terminator

a terminator is actually what SVT codenamed the 03-04 cobra during the design process to terminate the rivalry against the trans am and camaro, just a random fact for ya, lol

you can get an 03-04 cobra for anywhere between $18,000 up into the low $30,000's.. for a 99-04 GT you can expect to pay anywhere between about $10k to up to $16k depending on condition, whether you buy from a used dealership, etc.

honestly, if your parents will let you, and you think you can afford it, i'd go ahead and put the few thousand extra towards a cobra if you can find one for the right price

Hopefully I can find one around 18,000 then. My new job I'm getting will let me afford that, but it'd take a little less than a year to fully pay it off.

nah, j/k.. my sister works in a pharmacy and she only gets $7/hr.. she is currently in college to be a pharmacist too

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but do the new edge designs of a GT come in a v8 or only a v6?

the GT is always going to be a v8.. the regular mustang is just a v6 unless you get the GT or the Cobra or saleen or roush, etc.

Well I'd probably be satisfied with a GT or a cobra, I didn't realize the GTs were v8 too. Anywhere I can compare the specs for the 2?

hmm, i dont know where you can compare them both, maybe try googling them

but the major things are the cobra is a 4v as opposed to the GT's 2v.. (but the 05+ GT's are 3v)

the cobra has forged internals and a supercharger as well as independent rear suspension.. honestly you get what you pay for with the cobra IMO

if you wanted to buy a GT and do all of the work to make it exactly like a cobra, you'd be spending THOUSANDS more than you could get a cobra for..

I'm not looking for the fastest, but just a car that'll put the power down, sound nice, look nice etc. If I find a cobra for the right price trust me, I'll get it

yeah, the cobra is the holy grail of the new edge body style lol.. its pretty fast, but a GT would be sufficient if you dont want the best of the best
