Picking out a mustang
I need some help here... I'm definitely getting a mustang I just can't decide which path to take.
Alright, I've got a budget of like $20,000 and am looking to do one of the following. Get a V6 and then hook it up with a supercharger, etc, or... Get a V8 and have no extra money to spend. I also have a few other questions about mustangs: I'll let you know what kind a car I'm going for first though. Well of course I want a really fast car, not completely for dragracing, but definitely a lot of hp. I'm interested in getting a manual, unless thats a bad idea. Would getting a nice body kit be a good idea, or are those a waste of money? Does anyone know any good performance shops in northern indiana? Supercharger or turbo? ( I never really got the difference) Manual or Automatic? Any other very important mods that need to be made? Thanks |

Get a 99-04 gt with a manual tranny and you wont be sorry trust me. You should still have a little extra money left but then just save for a supercharger.

Welcome to the site.
If you're looking for a V8 and still have some $$ to spend you're in luck. A LOT of Mustang GTs and Cobras are going for well under $20,000 nowadays. No, you won't get a brand new one, but good bang for the buck nonetheless. To compare. My 96 Cobra (if you don't know your specs, 305/300 hp/tq stock) with only 60K on the clock cost me a smidge under $10,000. So you could go that route, still get a V8, AND have money to spend (if you have 20 grand like you said was in your budget). Or get a newer V6 which will run you roughly the same amount of money, have more of an economy car, but the perks of owning a slightly less-used car. There are many different ways to go about buying a used stang, each has it's own purpose in life, and it's ultimately up to the owner to tell the car what that purpose is. With a wide variety of modular to pushrod V8s available, several different V6 platforms, and even a 4 cylinder Fox to choose from, you are shopping for what I would call, the most fun model of car to shop for, period. Let us know if you find a couple you are interested in, and we'll provide you with the pros/cons of said mustangs, as well as whether we believe you are getting your money's worth. Good luck and have fun, and feel free to kick off your shoes and stay awhile.

Thanks for the responses guys...
I was thinking of an 05 mustang used, just because I like that generation better than the previous years. Now I'm no car expert, but would a car like this (sorry i cant post urls as i just joined) autotrader car id - 224335309 or car id - 228642899 be a good idea to buy and then try and fix that up, so I still had plenty of money to spend on mods. Or try getting one with lots of miles but a lot cheaper car id - 222369229 |

None of the 3 of those car ID's worked for me. ???
Well I've had the pleasure of renting a couple 05 V6's and they're not as underpowered as I had thought they would be. That would definitely be a good starting point. Personally, I've seen 1999 Mustang GT's with low miles going for dirt cheap around here... waaaaaay under 10K. With the improved 2 valve per cylinder V8, it's really a good way to go. But then again, there are a lot of good ways to go. Just depends on what style of stang and what kind of performance you want to get out of it.

I'd go with a GT. Unless you want to be different, and we have a lot of V6 enthusiasts here, just check out our V6 section.
Personally I would go with a turbo over a supercharger if you're looking for biggest bang for the buck. On a typical street application, a turbo will make a few more ponies than a s/c. WElcome to MM

Alright I think GT is the way to go then.
I found a guy in Michigan selling one for 18k and it already has a cold air intake, and suspensions. Now I'll just have to start saving up for that turbo. |

Like I said... feel free to post up any pics, prices, comparisons, of any cars you feel an interest for and we'll give you our honest opinion as to whether they are a good buy or not.
Keep us posted.
