3.8L s95 new edge New to modding

Hey guys,

my name is alex. i just bought an '03 3.8L black convertible mustang about 4 months ago, and i love her to death. ive just installed a force II flowmaster cat-back with 40s about 2 days ago (which was a pita doing it with jackstands and low clearance, by the way, but it did greatly pay off), for the first of my mods to which there will be many more to come. Sorry guys i don't have pictures yet but they are coming as i dont get much time for anything with my stupid ass job that leads me no ware.

I am going into the us coast guard to be a mechanic, and they say that what they teach you in mechanics there, is very similar to the old muscle car engines, so once i am fully trained i will share some of the knowledge.

As for the matter at hand, i have a question that seems to be bothering me: i want to install a catted x-pipe for my mid, but since i have just purchased my force II cat-back with a y pipe, will i need to change that whole setup into an american thunder, and just completely scrap my current setup?

well to rap up my long ramblings, its great to be a member of a site with such great minds, and i appreciate any help or suggestions or knowledge anyone is willing to share.

your Y pipe situtation it all depends on the room under the car if you can find just the X pipe piece you could cut the Y out and replace it with an X but seeing as the X needs two pipes you could probly go to AutoZone or something and buy an extra pipe for maybe 30-40 bucks but im still a little new so idk if that helps or not

Cool, can't wait to see it. You'll love this place, and we have an excellent V6 section with tons of great info.

if i were to cut the y off would that mean welding the x to the cut part or is there some kind of slip fit adapters that i can clamp on?

you actually might be able to slip on depending on the size of the X pipe but it be probly better to weld it on less worrying about it falling off if you hit something with it

so basically you guys are saying it is highly possible to cut the y and weld in an x? but if the x is not long enough i guess that would require me to weld in extra piping. would adding extra piping compromise the metal or the exhaust flow?

sorry about all the questions but this is driving me crazy.

this is my understanding as best as i can put it:

before with current y pipe set up

l l
l l <............>catted y pipe
l l
v
^
l l
l l <..........>cat back part of y pipe
l l

after with x pipe and cut and weld

l l
l l
v
^ <.........>x pipe
l l
l l
l l ....(extra piping to fit into cat back after cut)
l l ....(cut part of cat back from this point)
l l <...........> cat back part of piping after cut
l l
l l

if this is unclear i have uploaded a paint shop image.

i lived in Brooklyn for the first 20 years of my life, then i joined the Navy. i've been stationed here for the last 7 1/2 years. i get out next month and i'm staying here. it's just not the same when i go home to visit. everything's changed so much. my sister graduates form St. John's next year and she's tired of NY too.

(sorry about the darkness but being that its a black car and its night time right now, i cant get such a good pic,)

p.s. i will try to upload some day time pics sometime by friday if i get a chance. i know this sounds easy but with my stupid job i never get time for anything (i leave my car at home because i dont want my customers to know the car i drive in case they get mad, you know?)
