What is the legal age to purchase or possess a firearm?
A person must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a rifle or shotgun. To purchase a handgun from a licensed firearms dealer, you must be at least 21 years of age, pursuant to federal law. For statutory regulations concerning underage persons possessing firearms, refer to Virginia Code §18.2-308.7, possession or transportation of certain firearms by persons under the age of eighteen.

Actually, the law recently changed and you must be 21 to purchase an AR15 lower receiver.

Bwal I'll check on how many I've got, etc as soon as possible. I'm sorry it's taking a while but I'm super swamped lately. October is my busiest month by far.

It's a Federal Law. Contact a store that specializes in AR15 products and ask them.

I didn't mean an AR15 that was assembled as a long gun. It's a new law regarding the sale of lower receivers.

o ok i understand now...its the 1968 Gun Control Act. its always been around but since the ar has seemed to gain more interest in the last year or so they are starting to enforce it....18 year olds can buy rifles and shotguns, but the lower reciever doesnt fit in either category so it gets sold to 21+ year olds.

not really the reason. a stripped lower can be built into either a pistol or a rifle, and since you cannot control what the lower is being made into, they stopped all sales of stripped lowers to anyone under 21 yrs old

Do you know what date it was introduced? I bought my lowers around the time that Osama Bin Bama got into office and wasn't 21 yet.
