Product Review

Im doing a bit of an experment...

First, let me run down my car: 2000 Mustang 3.8, 64,000 miles, 5-speed manual, K&N, Jet performance chip, true dual custom bent exhaust.

My concern is toward my K&N. I got a K&N FIPK Gen. II for Christmas. It cost $225 shipped to my door. I paid $25 to have a shop put it on. Total invested = $250.

I kept track of the last 7 tanks of gas before the cai. My average MPG from those 7 tanks was 20.9. My dad would drive my car sometimes and he said that he would get 22 MPG out of it anyday. That is true because he doesnt hard-ass like I do. The best single-tank MPG that I got was 22.6. That is the best I ever got out of one tank.

I filled my car up last nite and did the first actual check. I got 23.5 MPG. Thats already an improvement. I think I could get even better than that because im still excited about getting the kit, and that makes me hard-ass it even more. Once the "new car smell" wears off and I start driving normal again, I really think that I could average 25 MPG.

I wanted to tell you what ive found out. Id like to hear results from any of your experiences, and I think that we need more personal product reviews on this site.

according to consumerguide my gas tank is 15.7gallons. i think its less but if it is indeed 15.7 gallons i only get 15.3MPG almost every tank. i used to get 17.8 but i dont know why not anymore.... its got 80k miles never had a tune up. i should probably get that done.

I'm new to he site. Kind of an old fart. Got a 93 V-6 conveertable. Once got 27 on a trip. Usually get 25 -26 on Interstate at 70 - 75 mph. Onwned several Escorts and have always got an extra 10% when I switched to full synthetic oil. My son-in-law installed a K&N air filter and he got increased milage and power until the special spray coating wore out. After he resprayed it improved again. He is a truck mechanic and is now removing it bucause the spray stuff may not be good in the long run. He beleaves it was the same stuff that got Waltrup disqulified early this year as NASCAR fowund residue in his intake. My kid did switch to Mobile 1 and got 1-2 mph better (about 10%).
