Yea the live view feature is not going to sway my decision and 2 more AF points on the XTi is not a big selling point for me either.

AF points are huge for composition.. Especially for some of the more artistic photography shots..

Well I have a few weeks to really decide but I want to buy the camera before my next trip to NY to shoot some of the good scenery up there. and Emay do you know of any other differences in the cameras. I know the AF points are probably more useful to a more experienced photographer but for me I don't think it will make musch of a difference with this being my fisr DSLR and real attempt at any photography

i ALMOST bought that one, but decided to get the 28-90 lens instead and for only 10 bucks more. i would get that, seriously. and get it soon because this whole photography stuff is a handful at first. so many different things you can do. you have to know how to work it. you don't want to go to NY with no experience with it (assuming you are getting it days before you go by waiting a couple weeks)

You can get by, just that as you progress you will quickly understand that more of the af points is very helpful. Live view is useless.. Don't even bother worryin about any of that..

xsi shoots .5 second more frames per second. Not a big diff there really.

2mp difference as well, not big for a beginner. A pixel peeper would see the difference in the photographs..

that's about all I see..

For me to save $200 dollars for the camera would take more than a month for me. I'm in highschool working part time and have to pay for my car insurance, gas, my ATV payments and just need money on the side. My money for the camera came from the small tips I make at work that I have been saving up forever.

well... hmm.

and you have been to your local camera store and have played with all the ones there??

I'm not going to lie, when i got my camera i played with it for a month straight then i set it down for a while and didn't look at it aside from when i was going to bed each night. I just don't want you to go out and get one, and do the same thing i did then realize a few months later that you should have waited for a bigger better one.

Thank you mother onemanzu lol You do however make a good point. What, in your mind, makes the D80 a much better choice as first camera for me over the other choices? How do they compare because aren't they both 10 mp. and similar in other capabilities or is there somthing "special" about the D80

the D80 is a mid level camera that has more options to expand on in the future AND its dirt cheap now a days, depending where you look.

i will stop throwing my opinions out now, cause i pick cameras based on how they feel then from their pick the one with the best statistics.

onenanzu your opinions are always welcome. and one more question for ya, what did you mean by the D80 being slight pentaxian with its abilities?
