Hockey Game
So im gonna go see the san jose sharks kick columbus blue jackets ass feb 7 down in columbus.
i have 2 questions. my friend knows the coach of the blue jackets and he told her to text him a couple hours before the game and he will see about getting us into the blue jackets locker room and meet the players and stuff. i also have his number. What setting should i have it on while im in the locker room? my second question is what setting should i use while im taking pictures of the game. depending on if she finds someone to fill the extra seat she has depends on where i will seat. i got tickets for MM and she has like E or something. its also at the end of the ice right behind the net |

Also, I tried looking for what you mentioned row mm I believe and had no luck. Based on the chart below, where are your seats..
I highly recommend you see if you can get there early while they are out warming up. You can walk down to the glass and there are holes to shoot through so your unobstructed. Just remember, even in warm ups, the pucks are all over the place and you gotta watch so you can pull away from any stray shots. Otherwise you'll have lots of small pieces of a camera and a sore face.

I have the Canon Rebel XTi. it has a built in flash but i also have a slave flash. Im in Section 120. Row MM (friend said we are under an overhang). her seats are in row E i think. so 5 rows from the glass.
here is a better view for you. this is when we won states. we played at the Bluejackets stadium. Im the gold team lol anyways its behind the goal, behind the net |

If you can get in row 5 with her you will get some great shots Based on my knowledge of row labeling and numbering, the seats under the overhang will be pretty far away and require a zoom of a minimum of 200mm. Otherwise all your shots will be more like landscape shots.
That slave flash will be key in the locker room. If your familiar, put it on ettl, 45 degree angle to the ceiling and shoot a test shot at iso 100, 160th of a sec, F6 - f8. If it's a tad dark take it to iso200. You should be good there. If it's over exposed with those first setting I gave, bump the shutter speed to 1/200th. Shooting at the ice will prove annoying.. This you will have to play with a bit because the bright ice, the lighting, the color of the jersey's will make shooting in a manual mode custom at a real time level. Only thing I can give you there is shoot at the fastest speed possible to eliminate too much blur. Hockey's so damn fast and so much is going on, in order to not blur stuff out you gotta shoot at hot speeds. Lighting dictates everything though. You will probably have to take your ISO to 800-1000 in order to keep blur down with a reasonable shutter speed.

If light is so poor that your shooting on the ice at 1600, your aperature will have to be hot as well, probably closer to f4 in order to shoot at 1/320th or so.
I had some black hawks shots from a few years ago somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them up. I remember trying to shoot the goalie at iso 800 and having a terrible time because my lens was slow in terms of AP value. I think I remember iso 1600, Aperature F4 shutter speeds of 1/500th and 1/640th to avoid blur. Again I tend to shake a lot, someone more still can prolly land similar as slow as 1/320th. That'll give you a starting point.. but Chicago United Center has poor lighting at best, elsewhere might be more forgiving..
