You don't need that one, trust me.

That's a 7428 Rotary. You'd need the PC7424

Pictured here

The top one is a rotary, which means it Rotates, the other one a Dual-action or D.A oscillates

One (the rotary) is more powerful and can quickly eat through your paint if you aren't careful

I've been doing a lot of reading on the subject for the past few hours..

The Porter Cable 7424 is a Dual Action buffer that essentially does small circles inside of a big circle. The PC7424 is pretty much the leader in the game of DA's followed by the Meguiar's G110 right behind it. The G110 is essentially the same exact thing, but with a different name on it.

The Porter Cable 7428 is a 10 Amp Rotary buffer which means that it spins in one circle. These are the best in the industry, but also require more skill. They generate alot of heat which can burn right through your paint if you are not careful. Ryan uses a Makita rotary, probably a 9227. He has alot more insight on them than I do.

I use a Dewalt Rotary, You do need to know what you are doing, Plastics are the easiest to mess up with one of those.

I've got a general idea of it. Gonna be buying a busted up hood from a yard to work on.

My buffer is basically built in shadow of the 849. I was surprised at the weight. I was expecting alot heavier. I guess alot of the guys on detailing forums aren't that strong

When I spoke to weems, he said that I should be very careful with fooling around the hood scoop. Have you ever used a rotary on a new edge hood scoop? Mine has water spots. It's the ONLY spot on my car that I'm not pleased with.

i have the PC7424 and i love it! i think it cost 170 or something. came with an orange pad, a black pad, and a white pad. and pinnicle wax. detailed my car with it like 10 days ago and my car is still clean! i need to buy a couple more pads and new microfibers though. plus my dads friend is paying me to detail his boat and camero.

**** on a side note does anyone know if i can buff a car that has no clear coat with this? i don't wanna fuck it up.***

No clear coat = no detail

Boats need special products man. Look into the Meguiar's Marine stuff. Should be around the Mirror Glaze 40's and 50's. 3M also makes some good stuff.

http://www.autogeek.net/memali.html

Camaro's have some hard ass clear, just like most other GM's. Prepare for a good one.

Then prepare to set yourself back about $400. For a GOOD and professional detail, it'll cost about $250-400. If you buy it yourself, it'll be about $400 all together. Either way, your gonna spend some cash.

i got my rotary from northern tool for like 30$ it does amazing work. even with cheap ass 9$ turtle wax

first time using it and had no problems, i honestly dont see how people can burn through paint. just keep it moving and dont focus on one spot very long. i barely got the paint warm
