how to make a tool
I was gonna post this in the brake section but there was post in there asking people not to post in there... so i figured here would be better...
alright stangers... listen up cuz this will come in handy.. specially on fords newer toys... dont know if the s197's have these too or not but my sn95 04 did... here was the problem.. on the "Self adjusting" brake calipers on the stang (supposedly other models have this too and its not just a ford thing).. you have to "screw" the caliper back into place.. not just press it back into place like all the other vehicles ive ever dealt with.. dont have 50-60-100-200 bucks to buy a special tool?? i know i sure didnt... and i needed a new one today... called around to the local part stores to see about borrowing one.. they wanted $55 to rent the stupid thing at autozone... other ones didnt even have tools to rent... not having the money to rent or buy the tools and wanting to finish the brake job on my stang i got ingenuitive... i made myself a tool from some scrap steel i had laying around.. 5" piece of square tube.. 4" of angle iron. 1 1/2" of 1/8" flat stock, my handy welder and a angle grinder... 2 hrs of my time and this is what i came out with... ![]() ![]() the nubs i just built them up by welding in one spot and using the angle grinder to shape.. ![]() not much bigger than the caliper depressor... |
