Time for new video editing software.. feedback?

So I was using Pinnacle Studios 9 (or 8 can't remember).. I like it, it's simple and effective.. but since Vista and 7 it no longer works.. I see there is a pinnacle Ultimate Collection now.. and I'm thinking about it.. but I thought I'd see what everyone here has used and likes..

I have a few needs.

1. I still have the pinnacle box with all the different connections feeding into it so I can import from old 8mm or VCR.. I need to be able to do that..

2. I have an HD Cam Corder (Canon HF100) so I need to be able to edit (from file) AVCHD (.m2ts / H.264)..

So anyone have any recommendations.. I'm gonna have to fork out $100+ I know that.. but it's worth it.. (i guess)

how about movie editor, movie editing software | Adobe Premiere Elements 8 ??????????? I'm sure its great for a beginner and won't break the bank? I haven't tried it, but they have some sweet effects on Vimeo and stuff.

Thanks Power, I'll look into it.. and Quad.. I heard good things about Vegas, in fact it was one of the first (only at the time) programs to deal with the AVCHD files

Next time your heading over to the office; bring a flash drive that has at least 7gigs free and I'll put a copy of it on there for you.

If you are interested in video editing and other artistic stuff I would suggest a mac with final cut. I have been using final cut softwares for about 4 years and I have no complaints. Plus Imovie which comes with the mac is pretty rad too.
I edited this with Imovie and finalcut about a year ago. Damn I wish I didn't have to sell my equipment for car parts.
