I think you'll be really happy with the D60. It is light-weight, but you can feel that its sturdy...canons, especially the lenses have always felt cheap to me. Its compact size allows for good shots in all situations. Overall, it is a very capable camera....I guess I am partial since the D60 is what I shoot. My best bit of advice would be to read the book, as someone has already said, go through the menu and settings to get a feel for what is possible, and just "mess" with it. You can always reset the settings....
Have fun with it! |

The Canon "L" lenses are about the best out there $ for $. The Canon DSLR's have a much better A/D convertor than the Nikons (In their consumer cameras). This results in less read noise. Also for long exposures I know that the Canon exhibits much less amp glow than the Nikon, but I doubt you will be taking many if any long exposures.

[QUOTE=M.P. Cobra Fan;3080174]Filters, I recommend two right off the bat. I have quite a few myself. However, get UV filters on every lense. More to protect the glass then anything. Second would be a polarizer. This will help you cut down the glare the sun causes when you have no choice but shooting in the day.[QUOTE]
Some will tell you different things about using filters to "protect" their lenses. I read an article at one time suggesting a filter for this purpose could do more harm than good. For example, the camera is dropped in the field and the filter becomes jammed on the lense and the threads ruined. Others swear by this technique. I have always had a UV filter on my lenses, but for my last few shoots, I went filterless and was actually happier with the results. My suggestion would be that if you start buying filters, spend the money and get quality ones and not some random ones off ebay or something. Cheap filters will really mess with your results. If the glass is cheap and imperfect, images can be distorted and hazzy....not cool. I do a lot of b&w stuff and love the red filter. It creates awesome contrast between lights and darks....white clouds and blue sky for example. |

It does a couple of things.
(1) it holds 2 batteries thus doubling the number of shots you can take before recharging (2) allows you to shoot vertical/portrait shots very easily as the grip has it's own shutter release button. It also (for me) made the camera much better balanced & was 10 times easier to navigate the menu buttons with it attached to the camera. The battery grip with the 2 high capacity batteries was 145.00 new. |

FYI: after more thought. I will sell the complete package. But have no interest in selling just the camera & lens.
Thanks, Dave. |
