First attempt at bracketed HDR landscapes

Here they are. Critiques are welcome. Did a +2, 0, -2 exposure bracket. Handheld the camera. Blended together using photomatix. I mess with the settings in photomatix a little bit, but not too much.

Are you setting your focus to infinity? They seem a bit soft.

Not sure what u mean by that. I had the aperture set the lowest the lens would go (3.5 I believe), iso 100, 1/200 shutter speed. Camera is a canon t1i

that's your problem.. your aperature should not be shallow during landscape - that's what netted softness on everything but the focal point.

You also need to set you focus manually to infinity looks like a sideways #8 on the lens when manually rolling the focus ring.

If your on a tripod, and you should be if your attempting HDR, then using F8 in that lighting would be my starting point. I would not come under F5 as depth of field will begin to play a roll similar to what you have netted above..

Ok good advice. My lens don't have the infinity symbol though...

I will have try and catch it again with an f11 or so.

Shoot in RAW if you can, throw them in photoshop. Works like a charm for me.

If it doesn't have the infinity system, just set it to the farthest your lense will go on the focus ring.... Set it to manual focus, then turn the focus ring to the farthest direction (the direction it looks most in focus through the view finder). Take it from there, hope that helps....

p.s. I would try it at the highest F stop you have on that lense first..... F22? or further.....

These were shot in raw.

When i go full counter clock wise it's not in focus. I've heard this lens will go past infinity. I think I need to bump up the f stop for sure. I believe it will go to 28 or something like that. The camera is a canon t1i

I understand, I'm sure it doesn't when looking through the view finder....

When you have your camera set up to the highest f-stop, that tends to correct that issue, wierd, but true...

Give it a shot, if your board, and use a tripod (I'm sure you're using one)

Good luck

I would've never even considered that. I'll try that next time I'm out picture taking. Good advice.
