Screwing around with the D60 (dog picture)


Still messing with all the settings, damn thing is giving me a finger workout haha.


BTW this is Ace, we adopted him a little over 6 months ago.

He will be a joy to photograph being half dark face and half light face. A metering nightmare!!

Absolutely.. His black half disappears into darkness - no details can be captured even in his eye because his light half is dominating the metering in the camera.

Two options, have his dark half always towards the light source, reflect some light on his dark half, or dodge his dark half in post process which would be zero fun at all.

If you try to do the opposite and meter his dark half in camera, his light half will be over exposed as will the rest of the frame while his black side exposes properly.

If you want to see the differences, try shooting him with his black half towards a window during the day.

It's not impossible to get a good shot, you just have to do a little more to net great keepers.

As you can see I tried getting the window light to show against the dark side of his face, only issue is getting him to keep still lol.

I do see it, but it's wrapping, looks like from behind the ear as it's on the beak, top of head, and some side, but not in his dark patch.

Looks like he was dead serious about seein what you were doing though..

Oh, that's true. The direction does look a bit off now that you mention it.


Yeah, he was interested in what I was sticking to my face.....that lasted about 3 seconds haha
