need a new walk around lens
i thought this would be the best place to ask about a new lens.
my tamron 28-200 bit the dust a while ago so i was using the kit 18-55 and if just crapped out on me too so im on the hunt for a new lens for canon any recommendations? id like it to go fairly short 18~mm the wider the better, but still have a fair amount of zoom to it. price isnt a huge factor, but i dont plan on buying L series glass. i liked the tamron alot even though the zoom went the wrong way haha

I remember that about Tamron - back asswards.
I don't have any heartfelt recommendations because I am totally dedicated to L series glass and will likely never buy anything else, I'm that passionate about it. Based on your requirements, you got basically two choices, 18-135mm and 18-200mm. Neither is what I would consider walk around with that much reach on them. The other downside is low light versatility, in that focal range the fastest AP is 5.6, which is turtle slow for something that you want to be versatile across the board. |

believe me, if i had the money to throw around i would definitely have L series glass but for the time being i cant afford it. i put it a bid on another tamron 28-200 on ebay. its at 26$ right now haha but if that falls through ill look at some other options.
is that 18-135 the kit lens canon is using an the 7d?

The 28-135mm w/IS was the offered kit lens.
I certainly understand the cost issues on the L's. You have access to lens rental by you? I'd see about renting both lenses and see what's in your best interest. Rental is cheap by the day. |

Beware. The 28-135mm kit (Canon) lens seems a bit soft when shooting. Not as sharp as an L lens IMO.
Just tryin' to help you out. (I own the 28-135)
