Even your friend shots negating following about every photog law there is. He shot while the sun was high in the sky and super strong, the truck was in front of eye distracting items like poles, wires, and framework. Anything like that steals the eye away from the subject.

Your shot does similar in terms of distractions. The telephone poles draw you in on the right, and the building to the left carries into the left side of the truck. Either have it in or out, move the truck if necessary, but always pay attention to whats around front, in back and to the sides of the shot.

So- Right off the top, shoot in softer light (just before sunset, just after sunrise), find a eye appealing location, no poles growing out of top of vehicle or wires draping through the scene and lastly, leave a bit more space in front of the vehicle. As if it has room to travel forward in the shot. It's just flat out a more desired composition. Try those items and see what you get.

What are you shooting with and was the above in some sort of automatic mode or did you have total control of settings?

I believe that camera is restricted in manual mode, you may only have control of aperature and shutter speed, but not iso. I think they designed that to auto set dependent on light available.

Anyway, good luck. If you watch for the little things, you will begin to see the results very quickly..

Yeah, in the middle of doing a 4x4 swap. So you could say its getting a frame off restoration.

Gonna get a rough country 4" lift in the future.

I would look into BDS lifts. I had a 6.5" lift with blocks in the rear and it was great. Higher clearance and good ride quality. They are a little more but with rough country thats what you get. A rough ride. Just my .02 cents.
