No tripod. This should take some decent pictures shouldn't it. I am looking mostly to just take nice pictures of my cars and at car shows. Just need help picking setting maybe. I like night pictures but can't take a night picture worth a shit.

This^^ Good night photography is very difficult, if not impossible, without a steady base.

Put it in Auto mode, take a picture in an environment you're curious about, then go into the picture and look at the settings that the camera auto-set too. Then practice like that. It'll give you an idea of what settings to start in full manual mode.

Definatly get a tripod if you want to take pictures at sundown, or at night. The shutter speed has to slow way down to get a proper exposure in darker surroundings, so any movement of the camera with a slower shutter speed is going to cause a blur. I'm no expert, but for daytime pictures I always shoot with the lowest ISO number I can, and just set the exposure to whatever is right for the conditions outside.

well everyone answer the tripod question. Night shots are tough even if you have a tripod though. Its all about lighting. Bright white lit parking lots are usually the best for a night shot.
