Is the screen hard to read during the day? say around 4 or 5 when the sun is blasting through the windows.

Not the best pic but I have a Kenwood DDX512 6.1-inch wide in-dash monitor with USB/iPod direct control/DVD receiver stereo

I love this stereo and it is a touchscreen.

Kenwood DDX516 DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

If your windows are tinted, you won't have any problems. It also auto dims at night.

I was thinking of going with
Amazon.com: JVC KW-XR810 Double-DIN Bluetooth Dual USB/CD Receiver with USB 2.0 for iPod/iPhone, and Bluetooth/Satellite/HD Radio add-on capability: Electronics Amazon.com: JVC KW-XR810 Double-DIN Bluetooth Dual USB/CD Receiver with USB 2.0 for iPod/iPhone, and Bluetooth/Satellite/HD Radio add-on capability: Electronics

Just because the color is changeable, its not a touch screen so I will be able to see it during the day, and I don't need to be able to play dvds and shit, as I am not going to be watching movies while driving, and I don't need any Nav stuff either as my phone is capable of gps and I hardly ever use it anyways.

I was a little concerned about how much it sticks out, but the stereo is already so far back into the dash that I don't think it will make much of a difference.

Oh, that doesn't happen in my car, I always adjust my gauges and everything so they are kinda dim when the headlights are on (helps with seeing down the road better, plus I hate when things are bright as shit inside my car at night)
but thats about it.

edit... I read that wrong, my gauges do dim when I turn my headlights on.

Yea I know the stock radio does, but not all aftermarket ones do. This is actually the first one I've had that actually does it.

Yes. A buddy of mine installed it for me (since I don't know much about car stereo stuff) and he did a "bypass" so that it'd play DVD without having the park/hand/E-brake on.

It takes a bypass things... cant think of the name atm. Its one of the square things with four pins. You have to wire it up a specific way. The way it works is that the unit powers on and is grounded to the chassis AFTER its on for a few secs.

That is the only want to make it work. If you simply ground it it will not work.

It's a relay. Two pins get grounded, 1 wired to the amp turn on, and 1 wired to the green e-brake wire. I have it installed in mine and it works flawlessly. The relay was like 5 bucks at autozone. It's a standard automotive 4 pole relay.

If you search google for "Pioneer relay bypass" you'll find lots of write ups telling you which prongs on the relay hook up to which wire.
