Found my next lens

Decided I needed something that would good for soe portraits and landscape type shots. I found this:

Amazon.com: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens: Camera & Photo Amazon.com: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens: Camera & Photo

The reviews just rage about how good this lense is. Some of the pics look down right amazing. Can't wait

Its really cheap as well. Only thing im worried about is the fixed focal length. No zooming in or out hehe.

Im guessing the alure of this lens is the fact that it reproduces the colors well and the pics look very close to what you see with your eyes, right?

Its has a low fstop, nice crips pics. Fixed lens is good, say in a house with your family or something.

This is my amateur input.

I need to learn how to manipulate the DOP. I understand the apeture is what controls it? I do not notice much of a difference when changing the fstop/apeture setting in my pics.

Dang, I want... I am just starting. I currently have the kit lens and a 55-250mm IS lens.

Coming from you, thats good. I really like your work. Can you show me some pics you took with that lens? I am trying to get a good idea of what I would use it for. Good for taking any pics of the car?

I've had 2 and they were pretty good for about a month of heavy use and then the focus started to grind. Returned the first in hopes I got a bad copy. That one went back too. So I migrated to canon's 50mm 1.4 which was much stouter in build and roughly 200.00 more expensive at the time. Once I migrated to my 24-70L, I dumped the prime 1.4 as it was never needed.

The thing you will need to adjust for is technique. If you're used to a zoom then having to move all the time for composition of shot is a big change.

If the focus mechanism is loud, send it back. Sign that it's going to cause you trouble.

I've done studio portraits for about 8 years now. Worked for a commercial studio for about a year before that. Lots of fun. Especially when you don't have to pay for any of it.

I can't wait to get this lens. Gonna order at the end of the month. Next purchase will be a external flash, then a better tripod, then this, then that... and so on.
