Honestly? You'll learn it quicker/easier/faster/better on an SLR. Especially if you already understand the relationship between aperature sizing, iso, and shutter speed.

And jumping from a Canon to a Canon is incredibly easy; it's what I did. You already know what most of the icons mean and how they organize their menus.
