[Triple A]

Rules

1. Every Monday I will pick a new topic/theme and you have until Sunday to post your work.

2. Photos must be taken specifically for this assignment. Once you see the topic you can go shoot, but please do not use a photo that was taken before the assignment date.

3. Basic photo editing is allowed, but don't over do it. No HDRs, b&w, or borders unless it is part of the theme.

4. You may post as many photos as you like.

As stated in the Photo A Day thread, I think this is a great way for people to learn more about their camera and to grow as photographers. Most people only shoot what they are familiar with, but by getting out of your comfort zone your work will improve. Just have fun with it and try to look at things from every angle. It will be interesting to see the differences in all of our photographs.

I will add the new themes to the post bellow. So check this page every Monday for the next assignment.

[Triple A]

Week 1: Shapes (cube, sphere, cone) - 8/30 to 9/4

These are everywhere. Look at anything in your home and you will see one of these or a combination of them in that object. With that being said, you can pretty much shoot anything for this, but be creative about it!

Week 2: Damage (physical or emotional) - 9/5 to 9/11

This one is open to interpretation. Be creative to express what this word means to you. It can be something more than just a broken cd. Explore the word.

Week 3: Reflections - 9/12 to 9/18

Pretty straight forward. Something ore than just a myspace pic and it doesn't have to be of yourself or a person.

Week 4: Water - 9/19 to 9/25

Any form of water is acceptable. It can be as big as the ocean or as small as a rain drop.

Week 5: Music - 9/26 to 10/2

This can be a person, a group, an instrument, or even just something that makes an appealing sound.

Week 6: Landscape - 10/3 to 10/9

Straight forward as she comes...Let's see those scenic shots!

Week 7: Photograph A Person - 10/10 to 10/16

This can be someone you know or someone you don't. And it can be candid or staged. Just try not to be too creepy! The only requirement is that their face is showing. Filters and b&w are allowed. No HDR.

Week 8: Freebie! - 10/17 to 10/23

For this week, I've decided to throw this one in the air to get more people participating. Just go out and shoot. Look for beauty in places you normally would overlook. Any post process is allowed. Have fun!

From now on, instead of one week for each theme, we will have two weeks. All of the other rules will still be the same.

Bi-Week 1: Cityscape - 10/24 to 11/7
Day or night, rain or shine, let's see some cities! Again, I'm going to allow any post processing, but HDR must be true HDR (at least three pictures to get detail in the highlights, mid-tones, and shadows. And keep the saturation as natural as possible!)

Bi-Week 2: Light Modification - 11/7 to 11/20

Up to your own interpretation. Write and paint with light (other than your name or words). Experiment with long exposures. Bring multiple people and lights to create digital art.

Color correction and basic editing are allowed. Layering images is okay, but no HDR this time.

Bi-Week 3: Panoramas - 11/21-12/5

No less then 5 images stitched together however you like to create a panorama. B&W allowed, minimal toning adjustments please.

Bi-Week 4: Complimentary Colors - 12/5-12/18

There are three primary colors (first column) and three secondary colors (second column):

Red - Cyan
Green - Magenta
Blue - Yellow

We're looking for you to find or create a scene using only two opposing colors.

Bi-Week 5: Santa's Workshop - 12/19-1/1

For this one you've pretty much got free reign over what to photograph, just make sure the main idea behind the picture is Christmas. Try new things!

Color photos only and minor photo editing is allowed. Boarders and composites are okay too.

Bi-Week 6: Buy It Now! - 1/2-1/15

I want to see some product advertisements for this round. Photograph anything that can be sold and design the ad to your liking. Anything goes as far as post processing. For composites use your own images only. Brand names can be added.

Great stuff this go-round, guys! I'm happy with the number of submissions.

Bi-Week 7: Monochrome - 1/16-1/29

All photos for this assignment are to be submitted in black & white. The subject can be anything. Contrast and sharpness can be tweaked.

Bi-Week 8: Long Exposure - 1/30-2/12

Your choice of subject, but no spelling. You can use a single image or merge multiple shots together. Photos must be in color and can be processed to your liking.

Bi-Week 9: Contradictions - 2/13-2/26

Find or create a scene that shows an object (or objects) out of place or things that don't go together. This assignment is up to your interpretation so feel free to get creative!

Bi-Week 10: Framed - 2/27-3/11

For this theme I want you guys to photograph a person that is framed inside of an object that is not an actual picture frame. This can be staged or found.

Bi-Week 11: High Dynamic Range - 3/12-3/25

Basically, HDR is a technique used to combine 2 or more photos to produce an image that has detail in the shadows, midtones, and highlights.

You must use at least three photos for your HDR. Do not photograph a human or any other living creature for this assignment. Subjects should be motionless. Process to your liking. No black and white.

You can download Photomatix, which is a free trial HDR program, from this website: http://www.hdrsoft.com/download.html. The trial doesn't expire, but it places a watermark on your images.

Bi-Week 12: Food! - 3/26-4/8

I decided to go with food photography. This can be anything between a quick breakfast to a full course meal. Each submission must contain at least two photos: the very first shot you took (completely unedited) and the shot that you liked the most. The reason I want you to include your first shot is so we can all see where each of us began and the changes that were made. Minor editing only, these should look natural. No black and white.

Bi-Week 13: Sentiment - 4/9-4/22

Photograph something that has a lot of meaning to you. Whether it is something that was a gift from a loved one or something that got the ball rolling for you, shoot it! Post at least two photos (first one you took and your final submission). Feel free to include a story of why your item means so much to you. Process to your liking, but try not to draw attention away from your subject.

Bi-Week 14: Motion - 4/23-5/6

Photograph something that shows movement or motion. Be creative. Long exposures, panning, and flash/shutter drag are a few examples that I think would be cool. Anything goes as far as processing. No animals. Experiment!

Bi-Week 15: Urban Decay - 5/7-5/20

Abandoned buildings and depopulated cities are a few good examples of urban decay, but anything that shows deindustrialization or desolation will also work.

Processing is up to you. Include before and after photos of your submissions.

Thank you! And you're actually the reason I said no b&w. You said in the other thread that your shots always look better that way so I wanted you to get more familiar with shooting in color. I hope you don't take that as me being mean

Zip, that's what this thread is for, to learn. And a nice camera doesn't make you a photographer. I've seen countless wedding photos and senior portraits, that are absolutely terrible, from people with no training that think their $1000 camera is going to take nice pictures.
