We delivered to the north side there in the wee hours Friday morning, Tempel Steel, down near Foster & Damen... was an interesting ride. We take Western over to Foster to Damen... except when I got off the interstate, there was an accident blocking access to Western. I wound up driving around a bunch of low bridges, making some fun turns with my fifty foot hydrogen trailer... then wound up on Damen for 4 miles... a non truck route... that was a fun ride. Couple of cops shot me some looks, but never pulled me over. lol

Chicago city cops normally pretty picky? I know that in the past when I've been in a bad part of the 'hood, at like, 3:37 am... and I roll up to a red light with some gang members milling around the corner... I've rolled right through red lights in that situation with a cop going by me the other way. Pretty sure they knew why though. lol

Depends Zip, they are and aren't. I'd just say they have their days. The thing is almost all of the CPD officers have a massive chip on their shoulders - may be the environment.

I would assume a big azz rig, on a non truck route would draw a CPD crowd, not the shoulder shrug you got. I base that on the over reaction I've seen them have at times.

We used to do the same crap over on the south side when Cabrini Green and surrounding housing projects were rampit with crime. You didn't stop at any red lights back then. Daley got that section cleaned up and things are nowhere near what they were.

Today, bad shit can happen anywhere down there as evidenced by the news.

Yeah I've had different reactions from different cops in different cities when I've been in those situations... the local yokels from small towns tend to be the worst... I got lost once in rural PA, in the dark, 3 am... in a driving rain storm... drove for all of a mile on a non truck route... not even in a city... turned around in a fire station parking lot... by the time I got flipped around he had pulled me over, and was threatening to 'Throw the book at me, call in a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Enforcement Officer and fine me 15 grand'... lol. I was like "Wow... sorry I got lost... I was trying to find a customer to deliver liquid to... that does business in your town... that is on a side street smaller than the one I got lost on."

Conversely, once I got lost in downtown Montreal, back in around 1993, hauling a 53 foot freight box... went over a bridge that was PROHIBITED to trucks over 11,000 kg... I was pushing 35. lol. But I got trapped into going over the bridge, I had no choice from where I was... when I got to the other side of the bridge, it had this big wide middle median area at the bottom of it, with a Montreal city cop sitting there... I rolled right up over the curb and parked in the middle to ask him for help. As I rolled up his eyes got huge... he couldn't believe what he was seeing. I mean I barely fit over this ancient bridge... lol... but, I got out and asked him for help, and even though we could barely communicate, he was cool, and got me to where I needed to go.
