Abandoned John Mansville Plant Shoot

The car isn't in perfect detail quality. Have to wait another 5 weeks before I can wax or anything from having the wing removed and decklid repainted. At that time, the car will get the full treatment; polish, glaze, seal, wax.

Hope you enjoy

You can see a bit of the pearl on the body lines in this pic. God the pearl is hard to photograph. The entire car is a light metering nightmare with all the white and black

Really like this pic

And this might be my favorite

Let me know what you think.

Already dropped on eibach pros without isos. Any lower and I'd drag on everything around here. For some reason, it does seem to be sitting off the tires a little more than usual. Noticed that when I was washing it this afternoon.

I really like the contrast of the old rusty white of the plant and fresh clean white of the car.

I've considered dropping her a bit more, just not entirely sure yet.

Was the car in the air recently for anything? Sometimes it takes a bit to settle everything back in.

I don't remember what you shoot with Slik, but I would recommend spot metering on the car with a custom white balance set. You may like the results. You will lose detail in the black wheels, but your pearl should show up cleanly. Give it a shot and see how it works out.

One thing you're lucky for is that if you meter the car, you will never have anything blow out in the scene. If anything you'll get under exposure of the surroundings which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you want to get pissed off and just out smarted in photography, shoot an all black car with black wheels in any sort of direct sunlight with even a smidge of sky in the horizon.

I use a Canon T1i. Thanks for advice. I'm still learning all about the camera and things. Do you happen to have a link to how to set up a custom white balance? I don't have any clue as to how to even start that.

The car hasn't been up the air recently as far I know. Got the car back from the painter again two weeks ago, but he took the decklid off, so their wouldn't have been a reason to have the car off the ground.

Do you still have the t1 manual? Canon does a good job of making this dummy proof in their instructions outright.

Essentially you need to take a shot of an 18% gray card. You then use that shot to set your custom white balance in camera. I see canon has the user guide available for download on their site if you need the step by step menu paths.

I do still have all the guides and everything in my manuals box in the basement. I'll have to go dig it out. Would rep ya, but says I have to spread it first.

From what I'm reading, it appears to just set the white balance for specific lighting, is this correct? Such as it should be something you do every time you go out to take photos?

Love the storm trooper theme. Mines kind of the same way.

Those are preset ones that let the camera decide. You can also set custom hard coded on your own where you eliminate the cameras "guess" in the selectable white balance positions.

I see. I've always left the camera on auto white balance using AV mode. I'll definitely have to try this in the near future. It's really pissing me off for the pearl to not pop in my pics the way I see it IRL.
