Thinking of selling my Rebel XS and buying a T2i...
I should be getting some Christmas money soon, and been having the itch for a new gadget upgrade. Was considering the GoPro HD HERO 2, but I reilized it would not be very "multi purpose".
So, how does this sound? Selling my Rebel XS for like $300, and adding $260 to it and getting the T2i? I would jump 8 Megapixels, Higher stable ISO, HD Movie capabilites, and an overall better built camera.

I dunno... you're only talking about jumping from a 1000D to a 550D... I'd look for a used 40D or 50D instead.
Depends on how you shoot, though. I find the 10Mp of my 1000D to be overkill already, so more resolution would just be a waste. What I'd LOVE to have though is a higher rate-of-fire... 1000D only does 3 frames/second... I'd love to have at least 6.

Do you shoot sports or fast paced events? Or are you mostly a still object shooter? If you are a sports shooter you might want to get a 50D like Rev suggested. I'd stay away from the 40D. Though it shoots faster than the 50D, it's got horrible noise reduction. If you just shoot stills, than the T2i would be a great choice.
The 60D is also a viable option. It's a bit more expensive, but you get both NR, video, and high frame rate. I went from a rebel, to a rebel, to the 40D. I wish I would have saved up a little more and skipped the second rebel and just got the 40D. Upgrading to another rebel, you are only taking baby steps. If you've got the patience, you might want to hold off and take a bigger leap and get a semi-pro camera. |

I didn't even start out with a Rebel. I went with a 50D, then to a 7D.

![]() Plus, the build quality (the magnesium frame). Once you hold that body style versus the Rebel, it's a no brainer.

Hey! You told me to go with the Rebel Erin! Lol. I would love to get a camera the likes of a 7D, but thats not gonna be in my budget for quite some time.
I mostly shoot stills. My main gripe with the XS is the low ISO and no Video capabilities. I have seen that the Ti series gets quite better shots than the XS. Btw, I got a $75 Amazon gift card, so really it would only cost me about $200.

There's nothing wrong with starting with a Rebel
I've met dozens of people who've bought semi-pro and professional bodies that shoot in full auto..If the t2i fits your needs, go for it. |

![]() I went with the 50D over the Rebel because a.) Holding it was a night and day difference. Felt like a solid built camera, rather than the "plastic" feel the Rebel's have. b.) I loved the LCD in the top of the camera (I use that for all my settings rather than the large LCD on the back of the camera). c.) I have a few extra $$$ lying around, so I could justify spending the extra cash.

Do you all think it would be worth the cost to go from the Rebel to the T2i?

Like I said, you'd be taking baby steps going from Rebel to Rebel. If you've got enough patience, you might want to look into saving up like $200 more and get a used 60D. That's got everything the T2i has, plus shoots at 5.3fps and has a swivel screen for more convenient shooting.
Edit: I could do without the swivel screen, but if I had it I would probably use it. For me, the fps is the deciding factor because I like to shoot sports. You'll have more room to grow with this camera and won't need to upgrade for awhile. Well.. My main reason for wanting to upgrade is the ISO and Video. The faster rapid shooting is a good point, and I like the max of 1/8000. However I am not sure personally I am willing to spend that much more for that. I don't shoot sports much at all.
I am trying to decide between going to a T2i or buying a new "walkabout" lens. I really need a better lens for times I can not carry my gear. The 18-55 is starting to limit me a good bit. So... new walkabout lens or upgrade to T2i? I can see the advantages of the 60D, but just don't see it as being my forte right now. I am considering these lenses: I am leaning to the Canon 28-135 if I do go with a lens. Starting to think it might be a better choice for now. There is a used one up for $250 atm which is an amazing price. New is $400.

Been doing some more research, and I really think I want the lens more. If I really wanted to, I could afford to get the lens and the T2i.
The 28-135 will address a major issue I have, and that is a replacement for my 18-55 as a walkabout lens. The 18-55 just does not give me any wow factor on anything hardly. The sample images and reviews on the 28-135 look very promising. Not as sharp as an L lens, of course, but it still looks very sharp.

Shit, i dont even have a walk-around lens. I just use my 28mm. I will only use Primes', no matter how limiting that may be.

I was really hoping to get a camera that could shoot video too! I mostly do still shots but also a lot of filming.

Well, I just learned about eht 1.6x crop factor... this making a 28-135 really a 45-216. Not sure if thats going to be an issue or not. I like having a wide angle.
There is the 17-85 which with 1.6 would be 27-136. However (and I know I am weird for this) it is smaller on the glass (67mm vs 72mm) and reviews are not that great. They say its only slightly better than the 18-55. I just don't want to lose my wide angle for indoor shots. I wonder if 45 would be an issue...
