Bought Me A Canon 40D DSLR!

I bought this camera from a member here yesterday and was wanting to hear from other members that have experience with them. This is my first DSLR camera and don't have any experience with them and don't know anyone with one. THIS is the camera and accessories that are included. I will be using this camera for close up still pics of my car and family but will also be using it on vacations to take pictures of big objects at a good distance and will need a good lens with a wide angle. My wife and I are picture whores and this camera will pay for itself in no time for us, we just need to be schooled on lenses and what all of the settings do and when they should be adjusted. I know there is a search button here and google provides a wealth of knowledge, so I am reading as much as possible but I know we have some very talented photographers here and wanna hear your thoughts also. I can't wait for this thing to arrive! Thanks everyone!

Well, if you would have clicked the link then your answer would have been inside. Yea, I did buy it from him. Should I be worried?

I have been reading up on them and they seem to be fairly respected and overkill for a newb like me, so that's good. I prefer to grow into something then outgrow.

I've heard that the 40D's are awesome cameras. Fancy DSLR's definitely have a big learning curve though, I'm still trying to figure out all the features mine has. Good thing is that they are easy to just take normal pictures with still, at least my Nikon is.

Maybe pick up a photography book? I have one from Scott Kelby and I like it, simple stuff

Good luck!

Do yourself a favor and get into the manual, tie that with a book like understanding exposure or similar. Either that or a local class is your best bet.

Then, post your shots and your settings. From there we can give you direction. Stay out of any of the auto modes. Using them will stop the learning. Shoot manual or aperature/shutter priority. Otherwise you have wasted your money getting into a dslr. The entire point of it is to have total manual control of all shooting situations.

Thanks a lot Emay! I plan to read the manual from front to back when I get the camera. Any good camera forums I can join?
