Good Camera For Long Exposure Shots?

I was thinking about this kit

Amazon.com: Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Zoom Lens + 16GB Deluxe Accessory Kit: Camera & Photo Amazon.com: Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Zoom Lens + 16GB Deluxe Accessory Kit: Camera & Photo

I know I will need a polarizing lens for day time long exposure shots, and a remote clicker deal. (I... I'm new) Would that kit be a good starter?

You wanna pay $500 for a camera just to take long exposure shots?

Not saying it's a bad camera...it's an excellent camera, but make sure to utilize it to it's full potential and branch out from just long exposure shots.

However, 'tis your money and you may spend it as you'd like

Why are we long exposing during day time shots?

Don't forget the tripod, cause you're not long exposing anything without it.

yeah that kit comes with a tripod. the day time long exposure shots are good for water shots. they give like a milky look. there is a pretty popular wallpaper of a long exposure of water flowing over some rocks. I won't just be taking long exposure shots but I love the way they look so I will be doing a majority of long exposure shots. night and day. so what your saying is this camera is versital?

Dragging shutter for milky smooth water shots isn't considered long exposure. Here's a shot hand held from last year with a simple 1/4 second drag on the shutter. By no means long exposure:

You also should not need any polarizing gear to accomplish any of what your trying to do. Get your camera in hand and give it some seat time, you will likely agree you can hold off.

Could not sleep last night and went ahead and ordered it

After I do get use to this, what kind of lenses would you recommend. I have seen some bad ass shots but the only thing I remember reading is it was "Fixed". I can't remember if it was a fixed focal length or what.

Post your photos, anything goes, b&w, color, ext... - Page 12 - KCSR - THE Kansas City Forum

it was somewhere in this monster thread ^^^

Edit: found this quote "Its fixed focal length and doesnt have VR but its still one of my favs." but I have no idea what lens he is talking about

The only thing that can be a fixed element is the lens, however the kit lens is not a prime so I'm not sure where all that came from. VR is vibration reduction, and typically a Nikon abbreviation. Canon calls it IS - image stabilization.

For the rolling shot in that thread, you will need to either purchase a boom, or make one custom. Then learn photoshop to remove the boom arm out of the photograph during PP.

Depends Troy, do a car with windows that are not tinted. Headrest, steering wheel, background like trees and signs make content aware fill just the beginning. Lots of additional cloning and reflections to pull out of glass that requires some serious patience and skill especially when you have to rebuild components that are detailed, but covered or missing.

I'm close to making a rule - no boom work unless the windows are Limo!!

I wasn't planning on taking pics like that. the pics I was talking about are on page 3 post #43 . they talk about the lens on page 4. that's the fixed focal lens I was talking about. I know the lens that came with the kit is okay but not going to get me shots like the west bottom pics. I just hope there is a lens comparable to that for Canon

For a prime - Your better off with a 50mm 1.4 from canon gonzo. Slightly more coin, not by much though. Or, opt for the nifty 50, 50mm 1.8 it's the biggest bargain by far, but it's also cheaper product in terms of build quality overall. Shots are still stellar.

is this the kind of milky shots your looking create? calma | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

If so, I believe you will need a graduated filter... which are pretty expensive.

And to answer your question. Any DSLR should be just fine.

This shit is crazy. I ordered the camera on the 3rd and it has a scheduled delivery of 1-9-12

I forgot to order the shutter release remote so I ordered that on 1-6-12 ~ 2pm and paid $4 for next day air thinking it would be here a little after the camera.

Nope.

It has a scheduled delivery of 1-7-12 by noon

Hey UPS, since you are coming to my house anyways, mind picking up the camera I have waiting at the same damn facility my remote is going through and has been sitting there for the past 24 hours
