New camera, T2i, is here!

Just got it in today. I can already tell this camera is way better than the XS. The build quality seems much higher. Its still a plastic body, but feels more sturdy. The screen on the back is amazing compared to the XS.

The images, even in auto, rival some of my previous shots. I can't wait to get some good shots with this camera. Sadly, winter time gives me less chances for good photo ops around here. Hopefully I can get some soon.

The video also is going to be FUN! I have been watching videos online and some of them look down right stunning with this camera. I just need to learn some tricks and get some equipment to make them better.

Already on the buying list:
  • Video Rig - Either gonna buy one or even considering building one. The only hard part is getting a curved peice of wood for the shoulder support.
  • Dual hotshoe adapter - So I can have an external mic and some external lighting
  • Remote Shutter/Time - Time Lapse sunrise/sunset anyone?
  • Battery Grip
  • 16 or 32gb Class 10 card - Got to keep up with that 1080/720p video!

Didn't know you were selling one!

Been done some research on camera rigs. I am gonna make one myself. I have seen designs made from PVC, Wood, and Metal. The cheapest and quickest will be the PVC.

I kinda want one that has a mechanism for turning the focus without letting go of one of the handles. Can't really do that with PVC... not sure what I am gonna end up doin.

Out of pocket was only $81. It was priced at $549 however. I sold my XS for $400 and I had a $72 gift card. Paid for overnight shipping at $4 with Prime.

All I needed was the body. Already own 3 lenses, a backapck, various cleaning accesories, Photoshop, ect.

I only paid $80 out of my pocket. The rest came from the sale of my XS and a Amazon gift card, hehe.

I have yet to use video on my 7d or 5d2 anywhere other than on my tripod. I've never contemplated using a rig. Doubt I ever will.

For your dual hotshoe idea, think about just going wireless for the lighting and use the cable port so you can put your mic in the shoe mount. Far better solution. Since your planning on a rig layout you can hard mount or galfer the wireless transmitter to the rig itself.

Remote shutter, for timelapses hands down the best trigger is the TC-80n3 everything else wishes to work like this one.

Grip is going to be mandatory if you are really going to use video. I run gripped 24/7 on both bodies. You won't like the weight at first, but you will get over it in a few weeks use.

32g card, again because it sounds like you are focused on the video features. You may want to get (2) 32g UDMA 6's, if you shoot in raw or jpeg + raw and do video you will have no choice.

I'll never put any of the video to full use, heck I probably use it twice a year.

Saturday night live used (3) 7d's and lighting to video a full show about a year ago and it was pretty cool to see ownable technology succeed so well in that space.

Good luck with the adventure, and put up some videos for us when you get the hang of things.

I so sorry master!

I have not had a chance to get out and take some shots with it yet. Just have not had the time.

I am really interested in the video. I see what it can do, and I want to learn how to achive that. Probally gonna be a few before I can even build me a rig out of PVC pipe. Money is really tight atm.

I do plan to buy a grip as well, forgot to add that to the list.
