My first photos! Awwwwww

Awwwwww isn't that cute, my first photos with a real camera. I purchased a Pentax K-R from one of the members here and these are the first good photos from it. These where taken in "auto" mode (yeah I'm lame like that) with the stock 18-55mm lens with manual focus and no flash. Not sure on the ISO or other settings (assuming high ISO because I'm indoors and it's night time).

The motor in a shop vac:

My parent's FX4 F150 badge:

An antique clock that I received from my deceased grandparents. Two photos, not sure which I like more:

And my XD taken in halfway decent light

Yeah, I know, lamesauce pictures Comment away

I like the first clock picture Looks like good pictures considering you said you were on auto mode and everything. Just a little practice with everything and you'll get the hang of it. Great start though. I wanted to get into photography just need a decent camera.

Spanks I've done a lot of work with an oldschool 2.1 megapixel Powershot A40 so I do have some experience at least with point and shoots, but a DSLR is so much more to mess with than any Point and Shoot is, not to mention so much nicer to take pictures with. Like you said, practice makes perfect.

My goal is to do motorsport photography (specifically autocross for now) which doesn't require massive lens kits and all of that. The 50-200mm should do for now for that, but I would also like to get into the more intricate details of a DSLR, messing with Aperture and ISO adjustments and shutter speed and get used to good still photos as well.

For a hobby, this will be a fun one as it can pretty much lead anywhere! Just need to keep practicing and practicing. Time to throw the battery on the charger and call it a night.

I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! I've only used for maybe an hour tops. Playing with M mode is on my list of things to do! Got any tips?

Shooting in auto really isn't going to do you any favors. Use the internal light meter that's viewable through the viewfinder. For now, try to get the meter to sit right in the middle. That will give you a good idea for what your overall exposure is, unless you're metering white or black. Keep your ISO at 100 when you're outside.

Solid copy on that. I will play with it some when I get home. Sadly it won't be until Sunday that I will be able to play with it outside as I generally get home after dark so I will play around inside instead.

I'm sure a good quality flash would help some too but its out of the budget for right now.

Took some photos in manual mode. I think I'm getting it figured out, maybe not:

I don't have the "specific" settings I used, just kinda took the photos and went to town. Zero post picture editing.
