It's a monster, that's for sure. I'd love to test out one of those. That's a great deal for only $3000.

D800 full size shots if you dare..

edit:
instead of posting the actual pictures here, I'll just post a link to all of them.

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d800/sample01.htm

I'm very eager to see how Canon responds to this..

For the Canon, rumor mill says the 5D MK III will have these specs:

5D Mark III Specs
If I put together everything I have heard, these are the specs of the 5D Mark III.
■22mp
■61pt AF
■7.5fps (this I’ve only seen once)
■DIGIC 5+
■New Battery Grip with Joystick
■GPS Ready
But since the Nikon is 36mp, I doubt Canon would stick with those specs. I bet they're already back to the drawing board trying to one-up the Nikon!

We win when they go to war like this! :w00t:

I suspect more megapixels also. Maybe not 36, but somewhere close. There's no way they're gonna let Nikon be that far ahead for long.

Agreed, win-win

One of my buddies just pre-ordered one and it's suppose to arrive in late March. I'll play w/ it at some point, but that's way too much camera for my skill level (or lack of skills).

Saw prototype at CES. Nikon said they were going to address the FPS and full resolution. When there it was a lousy 3.5 fps in large RAW and it appears they only gained a 1/2 fps in their promise. Anything less than 8frames and I'll be unhappy.

no need to gauk 36mp, even trained eyes won't see the differences until you go to ungodly print sizes. Better build a hot machine for processing too. Those files are going to hinder editing speed.

I do like the ergonomics, Nikon made some improvements with location of key buttons that actually are in line with a human brain. Something Canon has done for a long time and kept many of their loyalists because of that fact. I'm curious to see how loyalty plays out.

Yeah the files it will produce are going to be huge, but no one who buys it will need a fast frame rate. It'll probably be mostly studio portrait type stuff. Although with all the megapixels I'm sure you can crop the hell out of your images and still get some great results.

I heard the battery grip speeds up FPS, but it costs out the pooper at over $600!

Some reviewers say the d800 is equal in noise performance to the 12mp D700. That is awesome news since this thing is a 3x leap in mp's.

All the sample images I've seen are CRAZY sharp, especially the "E" model!

There is a .ru site that posted an iso 6400 sample, albeit terribly underexposed. They exposed for the lights on a chandelier that caused the room to be underexposed giving it more noise (under exposing will make noise worse for those that didn't know).

Pic is here: Ïðåäâàðèòåëüíûé îáçîð íîâîé ïîëíîêàäðîâîé çåðêàëêè Nikon D800 - Ferra.ru

Looks like .ru site got slammed, so they delinked the pic. You can get it here now: Nikon D800 High ISO Image Samples

Some specs here too: Photography Aficionados Forums: A Discussion Forum For Photography Enthusiasts

I want the D800E and soon as I can swing it, I will order! I've waited on this thing forever now and I've been shooting Nikon since 2007.

Oh, and...

I'm sitting here on a Dell XPS Studio 9100 core i7 machine and a Dell XPS 17 core i7 laptop (and two older sony desktops) on a 105Mbps connection. I'm not sweating the file sizes.

I want excellent prints in large sizes! My D300 got soft around 24x36 on Kodak Endura Pro Metallic. Can't wait to see how the D800E will do at 24x36!

Wow those are some nice pictures. I don't know if that photographer really knows what he is doing or if it is the camera doing all the work but damn, those photos are super sharp!

I'm with Emay though. The low FPS sounds like a huge problem to me.. I love my 6FPS haha, I wouldn't want to go back to anything lower.

I don't think this camera is supposed to be a sports camera with HFPS. I'd assume they'll bring out another D700 replacement with D3s/D4 specs for that.

I agree, but if the fps were higher the price would also increase. 36mp is a lot of information to move that fast.

There are some really nice features on that camera. For one... dual SD card slots. I really like that. Also, it reports the degree of tilt inside the viewfinder. Would kill for both of these features on my T2i!
