Flat Tire Story? Boring? I say not.
This past Wednesday was an interesting day to say the least.
As some of you know, I have a slightly large stereo system. It's safe to say it occupies the majority of my trunk. See? ![]() ![]() Needless to say, I have no spare tire. So on to the story. I left for work on Wednesday morning at 9 am. At around 10 am I heard a noise that led me to believe I had picked up a bolt/screw in a tire. Sure enough, I no sooner thought that, and then my low tire pressure warning lit up. I pulled over, and sure enough, I had about a 1/2" bolt in the left rear tire. Now, although I fucked up by eliminating my spare, I'm not a complete moron. I keep two cans of tire sealant/inflate in my car, and also a small 12v compressor. So, I put the sealant in, which worked fine, aired her up with the wee compressor, and off I went, a happy Zipper. Thinking I can get the tire fixed/replaced at a shop near my work. However, I only got about 20 miles down the road when the low tire pressure warning went off again. I pulled over, and saw this: ![]() ![]() That's right. That hole is where he bolt was. It came out, and the hole was too large for the sealant to work. And the tire completely trashed from being driven on flat. (doesn't take much to do this) I have also had a plan for this. I'm not a complete moron. I carry a cell phone with me everywhere, and I have roadside assistance through Ford. This is where the story goes south. I open my fully charged flip phone, dial the 800 number, hit send, and the phone makes a weird beeping sound I have never heard before, and then shuts off, and will not turn back on. I could not believe it. My phone chose right then and there to die. With me stuck on the side of the highway, 90 miles from home, and 150 miles from work. Yay. I waved at 3 OPP (like your state troopers) cars, and they just looked at me. Finally, the 4th one stopped. i gave them (two hot OPP chicks, I might add) the 800 number, and they made the call for me. I thanked them, and off they went. After about an hour, a tow truck showed up. The wrong tow truck. Not from Ford's roadside assistance. Fortunately, this guy was cool as shit, and let me use his cell so I could call Ford myself. At this point I explain to Ford that I cannot use a spare, and it's a rear flat, so I want a flatbed for this car. This is what showed up an hour later: ![]() ![]() Right. A wheel lift. Unable to get the wide, flat rear tire up high enough off the ground, even with dolly wheels. I told the driver it wouldn't work, and even explained that I had driven tow trucks for some time, so I know this. But he insisted on trying. I warned him that were he to damage anything, I have a camera, and after the camera takes the pictures, I might be mad enough to use it as a weapon. After him not being able to tow the Stang, I had him call Ford back, and send the proper unit. So I backed my poor lonely car up and waited: ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, this showed up: ![]() ![]() ![]() *lalalalala, driving, driving, driving* ![]() ![]() Then we arrive at the dealer: ![]() At 4 pm, the dealer tells me he can't get a tire, and I will have to leave the car there until Friday. I told him the score, and he got back on the phone and found a tire at an independent tire store, Green & Ross. He started giving me directions to get there, at which point I gently reminded him that I DON'T HAVE A SPARE. lmao. So he got roadside back on the phone, and managed to convince them that we need th flatbed back, and quick, since Green & Ross closed at 6, and was 1/2 way across Toronto. So, now we land at G&R, at 5 after 5pm: ![]() Now, the car needs 4 tires anyway, so I wasn't all that shook up about buying them. I also wanted to go wider on the back, so I figured I would buy two new ones for the rear. But, of course, he didn't have them in stock. They had them at other locations in town, and had I arrived even one hour sooner (thanks again, asshole cellphone $(**@@#!), he could have had the wider tire for me. So, I wound up having to buy one new tire (300 bucks, tyvm), and I rolled out of G&R at 6:30 pm, in the middle of Toronto rush hour traffic. I got to work at 10 pm that night, after leaving at 9 am. :award

Yeah I will be. This shit ain't happening to me again. I knew putting my stereo system in that this was a possibility, so I've always kept my work cell with me, but they always buy cheap ones I guess. So I will have my own from now on so this never happens to me again. lol

And when I got to work I had a killer headache from all the fucking around, standing on the highway 1/2 the day, and not eating all day. But I got over it.

When I take a trip through the old road, I'll be sure to take pics... the south highway has some really long ass turns and some really nice steep hills... which is fun... I got my dad's Tundra to 80 mph on neutral
