I guess this subject is just a little closer to my heart than most. First let me say I am a conservative. I know, this might go against some of what people here think is conservative but oh well.

Aside from the situation I posted above I want to talk about my last three relationships.

My exfiance is 24 years old. She has been living here since she was 4. She was born in the phillipines. Her step father was stationed there in the Marine Corps. He married her mother and brought them both back here when their village was destroyed by a volcano. Her mother is a US citizen now. She however is not. They have been trying to get her citizenship since she was 4. She was almost deported because her work permit expired. Her step father has tried adopting her, but INS will not allow it. She does not live off any gov't subsidies. She can not get a real job anymore because of all the work permit problem. She had a good job and and was married for 4 years. Now that has all changed. So you have a productive tax payer who has been here for almost all of their life, and they are having trouble.

My ex girlfriend is from the Ukraine. Her and her husband came here 10 year ago. Her children were born here and are citizens. She finally got hers 1 year ago. It took that long to get it taken care of. She has never taken a dime from the government.

My current girlfriend is from Mexico. She is here legally on visa's. She has been here 6 years. her mother is sick, and she wants to go back to Mexico to see her. She can't because her visa could be revoked and she might not be allowed to come back. She pays taxes, and does not take a dime. Well except from me lol. She lives in a nice house, drives a nice car, has nice clothes and jewelry. She does all this because she works her ass off 7 days a week. Her stepsister and her stepsisters boyfriend and one roommate all live with her. They all work two jobs and work about 12 hours a day every day. All of them pay taxes and bust their ass. All want their citizenship and all are having problems getting it. The roommate has a an exwife here and two children. All US citizens. The step sisters father just died yesterday. My gf's stepfather. Niether can go back for the funeral for fear of not being allowed legally in to the country again. How fucked up is that?

A lot of people have raised some good points on both sides of this issues. I have really mixed feelings about it myself. Their is no easy answer. However if nothing is done or if too mich is given, we risk serious damage to this countries economy and well being. We need to find a middle ground. I just don't have the answer to it right now.

Unless we go the South Park route and have a big gay redneck orgy and start screaming "dey took R jerbs!" lol

just because you are a conservative as i am doesn't mean that we will agree on everything. Not saying we don't. But it also doesn't mean we will agree with every conservative view either. Abortion i am in the middle i think that both "parents" should have a say which is not a conservative view at all.

All examples of good hard working people if i did my math right that is 14 lazy people we can get rid of now. lol But seriously these are the people i believe can stay because they are at least trying to be citizens and are not mooching off the gov.

IDK if this is what you think but it seems like you think like me to an extent. You think that people should be able to come here. AKA not completely locking down the boarders. You think that the people that come here should have to pay taxes in order to get money from the government. It should not be so hard to become a legal as far as time and cost. Understanding us history and other things you need i think need to stay. This is what i think but going by what you are saying it seems like we agree for the most part.

I live in Northern VA and it is horrifying the amount of illegals here. They don't pay shit and get everything for free and I'M PAYING FOR IT! This problem will not be resolved anytime soon....did anyone see the new south park episode last night? It touched bases on this subject and it was funny as hell.

Can you get citizenship via military service? I know that France at least used to do it (French Foreign Legion), and it seems like it'd be an acceptable way to go.

If it's not that way, I'm curious what the logic would be against it, other than some FUD about the possibility of "ter'rists gettin' in!"

True, but it also gives them a defined path that would guarantee citizenship (given an honorable discharge, of course), and provide work, housing, clothes, and food during that process.

Of course, it wouldn't work for everyone, families would certainly be SOL.

I figured someone would bring that up. By my understanding, that guy was an American citizen before he went into the military.

For the record, "Allah ackbar" just means "Allah over all" or something very similar. It's the Muslim equivalent to saying "Praise Jesus".

I know that, but do you know why he did it?
He expressed concern over deploying to support a war against his own people. That is a situation that becomes more common when you recruit on foreign ground.

Well there would have to be peramiters or there are since someone said there is something like that. but anyway maybe some kind of priorety system should be set up for the familys as in if there dad/husband/son or wife/mother/daughter is serving then that persons direct family members are bumped up in the processing list.

I am for something like this as long as it is hard to get into. Basicly lots of syco evals and things backround cheacks and all sorts of tests to make sure they are not terrorist and to prevent fort hood insadents. even tho the fort hood isadent is nothing close to what would happen the fort hood guy was in for 10 years or something like that and only did it because we were sending him to fight his own people.

Yes, you can get citizenship through military service. For someone to say it's fucked up look at Ft Hood, to me is asnine. That is a 1 in a million case. As well as the fact ath he was a US Citizen first. Last week in Iraq they just had a swearing in ceremony for those who got their citizenship in this manner. Those people have already done more for this country before they were citizens then most of ours will do in their entire lives. I have served with people in the military who were not citizens yet, they loved this country enough to stand up and say, I will go to war for it! How many Americans will do that?

Also, I am sick of everyone assuming that every Mexican they see is illegal. That is as retarded of a statement as saying all muslims are terrorists, or all blacks are on welfare, or all whites have little dicks (ok, so the last one might be true lol). My roommate is Mexican. He was born here. His parents both came here and met here. His dad got his citizenship many years ago. His mothers English is still not that great, and everyone assumes she is an illegal who is here to take their jobs. She is not. His parents worked their ass off all their lives to give their children a good life and the "American Dream". His father died a few years ago. But because of their hard work she now has her condo in the mountains and her brand new BMW. All legally.

A way to take care of a LOT of the problems that most complain about (getting handouts and not paying for it through taxes) is right in front of our eyes, but no one seems to support it. The National Retail Sales Tax. This would clear up all those issues. Everyone, even drug dealers and hookers, would have to pay taxes. This alone could help this country more then any amnesty plan, socialist medical plan, or ship them all home theory.

Explain to me why that is asinine. He was a man of foreign decent and religion and he was in our military. The moral conflict is the point I am making. If we have a Nigerian soldier, and he's a proud American at this point, what happens if we go to war with Nigeria? Thanks for clarifying the military citizenship thing. You are correct about that first paragraph. I am a strong supporter of are military and i am one of the people that will stand up and say ill serve. Im 18 and planning or signing up for the army researves after christmas sometime. I am doing it this way so i can get the military feel while going to community collage. I know i can go to collage while in the actual military but i dont wanna leave my friends yet. I figured after 2 years of researves i would go active. I will be more informed on the military lifestyle yet not just have to change right away. I think its a smart way to get in.

Mexicans are illegals all of them. muslims are terrorists all blacks are on welfare whites dont have small dicks tho. thats asians gosh get your sterio types right. Just messing around i hate people that think this to just because it is true for more then we will say 10% doesnt meant they all are that way. I know a few of each that dont match these discriptions yet i know a few blacks and mexicans that do.

My understanding was that he was a psychologist that was working specifically with PTSD patients; which meant he was hearing the worst-of-the-worst war stories on a regular basis. Then his request to finish out his term of service on a US base, where he could live with his wife, was denied, in place of that, he received orders where he was going to be shipped out to Afghanistan.

If that's the truth, then I understand why he snapped.
