As ridiculous as this sounds, where are those that keep saying that we need to catch these people when they start spouting off this type of stuff? Nowadays, ANY threat like that needs to be taken seriously. Granted, she's 5 years old, but any sort of statement like the one she made would be cause for concern. As traumatic as it may have been for her to be told she might be going to jail I don't think it compares to the trauma she would have caused her classmates had she gone through with something like that.

A little extreme. But why in the world is a little girl saying she is going to shoot all the kids and then herself.....Maybe they need to look into what in the world is going on in her house as to were she thinks its acceptable to tell kids shes going to shoot them and then herself. Bubble gun or not I was never allowed to talk about shooting people at my house, pointing a squirt gun or even a bubble gun at someone in my house was grounds for getting it taken away for awhile or thrown away. Gun safety should be instilled at a young age even if the gun in question does not have the potential to kill someone

With this vague legislation about cracking down on mental health, anything you now say that is remotely violent while getting off your chest to a therapists, psychiatrists, etc. Willl result in you being reported to the local authorities for mental instability, have all your guns taken away, and be labeled as crazy.

A little excessive but I do agree with Novanutcase though. It is case for concern and should of been brought to the attention of the parents. Some sort of meeting should of taken place to discus it.

That's the dilemma. I think we can all agree that, in this instance, it was a bit much for the authorities to be saying that to a 5 year old but had she actually gone through with her claim(Yes, I know unthinkable but there have been quite a few things that have happened recently that we all thought were "unthinkable") you would have the left screaming about gun control as they are now and the right countering with "the little girl is unstable and it's her fault not the guns".

The problem with trying to categorize who is and isn't stable enough to own a gun is very problematic as it could expose a lot of otherwise law abiding citizens to discrimination and a denial of their 2A rights which I vehemently am against. There really needs to be a non-political, non-partisan way of sitting down and RATIONALLY trying to figure out policy that will be both effective and fair to all concerned. The sticking point in this argument is that both sides have very convincing arguments. While most would say they could just meet in the middle, in this case it isn't that easy. There really is no middle ground per se at least in my eyes. One side of the argument is going to get the lions share of what they want.

gone through with what? shooting people with a bubble gun? lol

and if they legitimately thought a 5 year was making terroristic threats, why not just call her parents about it? they could atleast assure the school administrators that she didn't have access to any guns.
