sts rear mount turbos a bad idea?
are the sts rear mounted turbos a bad idea? i never liked the idea of rear mounted turbos since they are exposed to debris, water and since the tubing is longer there would be more lag.. but i was just on ststurbo.com and they claim that their turbo systems spool up as fast as front mount turbos... is this true and does anyone on here run a rear mounted turbo kit? i dont see them very often and wanted to kno what u all thought about them.. and i wanted to kno what u all with first hand experince with them thought...

eh I thought it was a fad that had passed. Of all the people that I know that had an STS kit upgraded to a normal setup within a year.

I've never seen any hard data either way.
I would think that you would lose a significant amount of potential power with a rear-mount, as the exhaust would certainly be cooler by the time it got that far downstream. Conceptually it makes sense that they'd be more laggy, but I've heard elsewise.

we've had a few cars come into the shop I work at completely blown to bits by the sts turbo kits. We refuse to put em on b/c they don't have very good craftmanship and, like you said, rear mounts are exposed to alot more than anything else and more prone to fail.
