408 stroker?
Couldn't find any previous posts about this. I am on the fence about either stroking my 351w to a 408, or supercharging it. I was concerned with stroking it because I heard the driveability of the car goes down. I also wasn't sure what sort power gains I would see from stroking it. I am really trying to find someone who has a 408 stroker. Any advice at all would be great.

Re: 408 stroker?
With that said...the cost of the supporting hardware will add up quickly to acompany the 408 at a power level comprable to a blown 351. A supercharger and your existing 351 will yeild more hp for the money spent untill you get into the 600+ hp range.

Driveability does't suffer from cubic inches. A 408 will drive just fine.

well i had heard the the extended stroke of the piston causes more friction and wears the block faster, and that it also doesn't rev as high with a longer stroke. any idea what kind of power gain i should see from a 408 stroker?

351 produces more than enough for everyday fun...if it's for racing the best thing is to get a properly tuned wet kit...weigh's alot less than a s/c or turbo set up

I didnt say software...I said hardware. By hardware I refering to the bigger heads, cam, and intake etc. that would be needed to acompany the 408 to let it make the same power as your current 351 with just a blower bolted onto it. Dont get me wrong...Im all about bigger cubes...but to answer your question...the blower will offer you the best hp per dollar ratio on a pump gas engine.

i have GT40 heads, and a 292-292 512 max cam, you don't think they will support the 408? and i know if i go with a blower i have to lower the compression, what are different ways to go about doing that?
