nitrous motor
What all would needed to build a 4.6 stroker nitrous motor? Would i just build it like a supercharged motor with low compression? Can I have high compression? I understand that i need forged internals. Now also when i say a nitrous motor im talking about about 300-500 shot fogger system. I would like to be able to drive it on the street, all motor of couse just have the nitrous for the track.

Man you will get any number of theories about this subject. I have always built with forged internals and four bolt mains. Granted this is an exspensive route shelling out the extra loot for the block and machine work. But forged internals would be good considering you want to build a stroker to begin with. That much gas will of course require a well modified ingnition system as well as a good flowing HCI set-up. I have ran pro fogger systems on naturally aspirated motors only, so fuelies are not my forte. However the theory works the same.

Nitrous will work with hight or low compression. Just like Notty said, a forged internal motor will be able to handle alot more power.
You said stroker. Any idea how big you wanna punch it? I'm sure you have thought this thru, but just in case... Remember: in order to bore it, the cylinder walls will be thinner...

If its a street car dont go over 10.5 to 1comp.You could go high or low compression its your choice.IMO go low compression because when you get sick of nitrous you could switch to turbo or S/C.

yea im just talking about a 5.0 like white99stang's car. id like to go pretty high compression about maybe 12.5:1. so when im not spraying id still have a lot of power N/A. but then also have about 400 shot on the track. im going to go ahead and build the rear-end and suspension like bullet proof along with the transmission.

12.5:1 is gonna be pretty high on the comp. ratio. If you really wanna run that much spray, and keep it for a street car, you're constanly gonna be adjusting your timing. Its gonna be tricky pulling this lil diddy off...

+1 compression really dont matter on nitrous, but everything else on the set would. n/a to nitrous is a lot of difference to be adjusting to, unless you had a switch chip. plus running that much nitrous, it will make the nitrous tempermental to conditions.

youd be better off building a stroker and just putting a supercharger on it, you wont get quite the torque but itll be more fun to drive all the tiem

i wish there was a way that i could have two different tunes at the same time. just have like a switch so that i could run the nitrous tune at the track and run N/A on the street. I guess ill just build a supercharged motor and put a lil spray on it. im trying to get orders to go to Korea so i can save up enough money to start building as soon as i get back.

Last week I got to shake hands with Chief McKinley, and went to a dinner where General Jumper spoke, it was pretty sweet. |

+1 to what drgnracin said. I've got an SCT flip switch tune also, I'm pretty sure it's available on most newer model SCT chips... I'm running with a n/a street tune, 125 shot tune, and a 125 shot plus 100 octane race gas tune... It's pretty common knowledge among tuners who work on a lot of street driven cars that want to make the occasional trip to the track and like a little extra hp. Of course this tune is also available for non n2o set ups, like with turbo's and s/c's you can turn up the boost, change the tune and fill up with race fuel.

cool. so my original plan will work. im wanting to make a 5.0 stroker motor with about 12:1 compression and run that on the street and a 300 shot fogger for the track. just have a tune for each. and about how much is the tune switch.

The cost depends on the tuner. If you don't already have an SCT chip capable of handling multiple tunes then you will of course have to purchase one. This will cost you, along with at least 3 different tunes generally around $800. Remember that includes the price up the chip itself. It's not cheap, but very much so worth it in my book. Or if you don't have access to a shop with a dyno, you could send VMP tuning on here a PM with what you want to do and how you want to do it, and he can program the chip himself according to your needs and mail it to you. |
