Ford Racing S/C

I have a 1996 Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC. I am debating between a Procharger & a Ford Racing Roots style S/C. I am leaning towards the Ford Roots style. It comes with a 6 lb. pulley and is rated at 55 HP. Does anyone know how much HP I can take the Ford Roots style to by changing the pulleys?

Also what is your comparison of the two S/C's???

The ford roots style sc is not known for producing a lot of hp but is a good working unit. If you pulley them down to far the make to much heat.

best thing to do when you start making pulley changes, is dyno it. each car is going to react differently to a set-up so to be hp specific to a change is really hard to do. find a local dyno, start buddying up with the guy...

I wouldn't make pulley change without a new tune,

Ford Racing SC's are powerdynes. And if you know anything about powerdynes you will know that they are junk. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Stay with Paxtons, Vortechs and Prochargers. I have also been hearing some bad things about vortechs lately also.

yea, but your not gonna see decent boost till about 2,500 to 3,000 rpm, depending on which unit you use. remember there are pros and cons to both setups. roots style gives good off-idle and low to mid range boost, but lacks in the upper powerband, while centrifugals see good mid and upper range boost but lack in the lower rpms. It basicly depends on what you want out of the car.

^ I was just about to say... go turbo. I was STRONGLY considering getting a Novi 1000 and throwing a powerpipe and a 8'' crank pulley on it to get like 9psi out of it but after you do the math... you can get a turbo system for the same price by the time you by all supporting mods for it, etc. And a well designed turbo on the right motor will make full boost at 3K and continue until you let off the gas.
