Just to add to the convo. Different engines and all the current fastest quarter mile recorded GTO we have at the gto site is an STS rear mount single turbo that I think runs a 9.6. Makes contemplate ditching my catback for one.

if i were you i would!! just make sure your cats are removed with the sts kit. i once read that a guys cats came apart internally and lodged in his turbos rendering them useless and broken. idk if thats a very unlikely story or if its common, but id just play it safe

i read that same thing on the GTO site, almost verbatim. Being thats its pretty inexpensive helps. But what i really like is the lack of hassle. If I install a procharger and then get my forged 408 I have to take it off the engine and redrill the new crank. If I go twins and then get the 408 afterwards I can't fathom the pain in the ass that'll be. But with the rear mount I can just leave it there...decisions decisions

instead of turbos, why dont you do some more bolt ons and than heads and cam? you could easily get another 100+rwhp outta that

if your gonna go witha 408, im assuming your gonna use a fast 90/90 setup, or you gonna stick with a ported ls6 intake?

A turbo would be more streetable than a good power head cam job not to mention the STS would be around the same price as a pair of heads, a cam, and install. The only reason I'm going 408 and it is the only reason, is that it is cheaper to buy a pre-built and forged iron block 408 than it is to take apart my current engine, buy a forged rotating assembly, and then have it put back together.

At one point like 4 months ago I was going to go N/A with a 454 or perhaps have it stroked and bored to its max 481 or 482 I don't remember and put the most lopey cam ever with some sick heads. But then it becomes a horror on the street, and forget passing emissions.

I'm going with the fast 90/90 and have it ported.

are you buying from tsp? ive heard nothing but good about them and thats where i was gonna buy alot of my stuff if i bought a ls1 like i had planned a while back. im guessing your buying just a short block right? why dont you just throw in a mild cam for a dd like their 224/224 or 220/220?

Well I'm still planning/saving up for it. I'm not getting soon. But TSP is generally where I look. Other places too but TSP has lots of options. I probably will go with a mild cam at some point probably at the same time as the forged engine, but I really like the idea of going F/I rather than an N/A car. When talking about high horsepower. Plus a boost controller is a really sweet thing.
