Modded European Ford ;)

Not exectly a mustang...but it has got quite a bit of mustang transplants and other mods, so i figured i wanted to share my build story of the car i love so much - my 1982 Ford Granada 2.8i Ghia

I have owned it since 1995 and in 1996 it got a 2.0 Ford Cosworth YB engine transplant producing 590 RWHP

Anyway , i came to a crossroad where i wanted something new after several years of faithfull service....

I was about to buy a fully prepped r32 skyline from japan, but made a last minute decision - everybody can buy a car, but not everbody can modify a car... so i opted for contiuning with the old ford... after all i have owned it for 12 years and am quite fond of it! ;-P

We will give it new just about everything basicly, as you will see in this thread

Engine will be based on a heavily modified teksid block with VERY reworked type B 4v heads, and a host of other one off mods.

This is what she looked like when it had the 600rwhp Ford Cosworth YB engine just before we tore her down for her final evolution

Today (2010), she looks like this :

So , to the build, read trough this thread and you can watch her "rebirth as a real Zzzleper and a supercar slayer

New rear suspension off a mustang cobra R, wich obviously is going to have some major mods as well, duo to both the power levels we will be running and beacuse the original design of it has quite a few flaws..

WE had to make som space..

dummy engine fitted :

Rear pushrod suspension, we are still working on it, but some progress...

Nice with all wiring hidden :

Fuseboks in place in new location and most wiring is where it should be(not connected yet tough), engine management and sequential cdi box to the right in the picture. haha, the handbrake lever is actually from a ferrari testarossa - only ferrari part i could use in my car..

And a close up of the left side :

One more shiot before final welding inside the wheel arch :

When you see this front in your mirror it is most likely time to pull over and have a coffe break, ferrari, lamborghini or whatever you drive...this old ford is going to be a tough one.. ;-P

the lower front suspension arms needed some attention...they simply looked far to UGLY to deserve a final assembly to the car...

So we made a jig on the workshop iron table and got to work..

After a few hours we could start comparing a std. arm to the new ones...

Picture of the final build after all welding will follow... =)

All parts ready for the JIG and then getting TIG'ed

And voila :

And then some polishing

Who could believe that this was the underside of a 1982 granada...

Engine fitted, and this time it is supposed to be there permament for a while..

Bonnet test fitted, so now we know clearences and can tig the wastegates into positon , and the top lid of the inlet manifold.

Had a (new) setback, wich isn't very hard to fix, just extreeeeeamly boring and none motivating stuff to do...

It seems the size of the Tremec3650 and the TKO housing is not as similar as the spec's say they are.. so with the real trans fitted , we did not get the angle of either the engine or the trans right...
Yep, up with the angle grinder again..... :S

This was not the dream stuff to fettle with now as the car is coming together...

The new "lid" getting there....

On the other side you can see the profile of the new centre console, wich will be made out of alu and carbon

Mixed updates.. :

The Dash is getting quite digital, the main 8" instrumet in centre talk to the engine management and other stff trough can-bus, and a 12.2" lcd to the right wich is connected to the cars on board computer, whom will have quite a few tasks on board... you'll see those later , the sound system will of course also be based around the computer as well.

Two channel wide band lamda instrument to the left in the picture, theese two corrected signals are also fed to the engine management, wich in turn also has it's separate wida band lambda sensors. 100% controll on lambda values has got a high priority after many years of engine tuning.

Looks pretty good for a 30 year old for

rear :

front :

details front :

Quite spacious for wheels/tyres at front as well

Fuel system soon complete.

Mechanical fuel pump in place with a decent bracket made up for it

Fuel pressure sregulator in place at the left. 2 AN8 hooses from this and out to each of the fuel rails,AN10 inn an AN10 out, you can also se the pulley on the crank damper for driving the fuel pump.

close up of regulatoren

Below, an10 both to and back to fuel cell

little more tricky to to cam timing on theese than on the YB!!

A few "historical" pictures i accidently found the other day...

Now this a long time ago....

drag racing gardermoen summer 2001

Ready for a few laps at rudskogen ,gatebil 1998

gatebil @ rudskogen, MANY MANY years ago...

The black hooses and fittings simply dont look good in photos...

Fuel out of 2 an8 exits in the F.cell, and then over into a Y piece for AN10 onwards to the fuel filter.

Fuel filter with a stopping crane(?) , before the hoose goes on to the pump
