5.0 Swap 92 Notch 2.3

Alright so I've pretty much done everything I can think of to my 92 coupe over the last couple years. I believe it is now finally time to drop a v8 in it.

92 2.3L Coupe

*Orig. Automatic - Has a T5 in it now, 98 Mustang Drive Shaft, 3.73 Gears, Bronco 2 5lug Axels, 95 Mustang 5lug Spindles, Lowering Springs, New Struts & Shocks

*Semi-Built Motor - Cammed, Racing Springs, Ported & Polished Head, New Oil Rings, All New Seals, Ranger Header, No Cat. Straight Pipe Till Flowmaster Muffler Then Hideaway Out Rear, Cold Air Intake

*New Tires - 17inch 5lug Cobra R's, 245/24ZR17

*Interior - Clean Black Interior, 3000GT Bucket Seats, 140MPH Reverse Glow Gauges, Pioneer Head Unit, New Heater Core, Trunk Battery Relocation

*Exterior - Orig. Red Paint, Painted Metallic Silver About 3 Years Ago, 3 Hoods, Orig. Hood, 2inch Cowl & 4inch Cowl, Modified Front Bumper, 1 Piece Headlights, 10k HIDS

A Little History:

Started Like This:

To:

Then:

Then this:

Motor Swap:

How it sits now:

Now for some questions. Not to sure where to start...I plan on pulling a motor from either a 5.0 explorer, a 5.0 f150, or a newer body mustang from LKQ. I plan on rebuilding the motor mostly. But what is the best way to go? What is the easiest way with the quickest time and most direct swap? I know I need the complete motor its self, a bell housing to fit my t5, flywheel, clutch, computer, and some of the wiring harness? Can some one list the exact parts need for this swap? I very seriously doubt there is a full 87-93 5.0 mustang sitting up there for the easiest swap ever so im going with any other 5.0 ford I can find.

Great car man! If i were you i'd find a beat 5.0 on craigslist for 1000ish, pull the engine and resell her as a roller and get 300 back out of it. Rebuild the 5.0 and make it a monster!

What I would like to do but every 5.0 in my area is fixed up and has a price tag of 5k or more. Not one single wrecked 5.0 mustang or just a 302 roller motor on craigslist within my reach at all. If it had been 3 months ago, yea but now I have tax money back and can do something, cant find stuff I need.

For real? There are old beat up 5.0's in my area for under 1k all over. Keep looking man! They're a really fun engine to build.

good luck with the build, i would say do a tubular K while the motor is out. Lost of wieght savings and handling advantages. you can find nice used ones all over here, SVTP and Corral.
Great looking fox as is though. gonna be very nice with a v8 between the towers.

Side note, ever thought about a 351? I know there are alot of junk 351's near me from broncos and f-150s. Seeing as how your going to need exhaust, motor mounts, and an oil pan allready, you could just get the swap parts instead.

Perfect chance to do it without having much more cost than you allready have.

Explorer is prob what im going to end up going with. Whats the best bet on finding a t5 thatll bolt to the explorer motor? is the block the exact same as the 5.0 mustang block? Any luck the explorer rear end will be 8.8 and fit under my car?

yeah pretty sure the 5.0 exploders with 4x4 also got 8.8's w/ 3.55's. was looking for one for my s-10. length wise im no sure it will fit under a fox. im sure google knows if it will.

Block is the same, for a mild build, find yourself a used T5 from a 94-95 5 oh or fox. Not sure if you could use one from a 3.8 out of a 94-95, maybe worth looking up. I want to say yes, but not 100% on that.

Sonic Blue? Nice color choice. looks like sonic, but not sure.

Heres all the info for a t-bird to mustang 5.0 swap.
Funny how the search button works. i literally typed in thunderbird 5.0 to mustang swap, first thin to come up. No wonder all the stickies say to try it out.

5.0 Swap - '91 Tbird 5.0 HO --> '93 Stang 2.3

My $800 parts car im picking up Wednesday. A 1990 Lincoln Mark VII with a 5.0 HO.

I believe this car has a 8.8 rear end but it is a tad bit longer then the foxs. I think it only stick out like half a inch on each side so itll match my front SN95 5 lug spindles. I have a question about my options for a transmission though...I have a factory 4 cylinder T5 in my car right now. I know the bellhousing are different, but most people are telling me the 4cylinder family t5 wont last long behind the 5.0 so what are my options? I know the best bet is to find a t5 from a 5.0 gt but no luck with finding one in my area. I know the 94-95 5.0 t5 you have the cut either your driveshaft or either change the pilot bearing and all that, sounds like more trouble then thats worth. What other options do I have?

Got my swap car, 90 Lincoln Mark VII LSC 5.0 HO $700 105k miles

Bought it got it home backed it up to where it sits now and let it run for about 5 mins. Started smoking, thought it was just the busted brake booster leaking on the headers, i was wrong Busted valve cover.
