Ranting about the misuse of "ricer"

I have looked around the forum alot and some things have been bothering me and I'd love to raise awareness. I have an almost stock 88 GT vert, so bash on my ride all you like, considering I'm not here to do that, nor do I have any right to. I've been looking around the posts at some ignorant guys calling a wide assortment of cars ricers. I'm only 17, but I've been into cars my entire life. Rice is known for 2 things, 1 riceburner, being derogatory towards import cars, however the thing that some people seem to be missing is that you are using the word rice to describe the wrong cars. Rice is an acronym for "race inspired cosmetic enhancements" this is all of the annoying crap, including but not limited to Giant wings, rediculous body kits, 4.5 in piping on a car with no engine mods whatsoever. Just a reminder if the car is all show and no go then its a rice. If its a civic pushing 20lbs of boost and 400+hp, it doesnt matter what you call it considering it probably just stomped you ass. =)

What if it makes 400hp and still has a Giant wing, rediculous body kits, and 4.5in piping on a car that doesnt need anything larger than 3in piping?

Is that sorta rice, dirty rice, white rice, rice ish, or none? Just curoius how you felt on this, while your laying the ground rules and all.

I agree rice is used way to much to describe cars. To me it is more the mentality that someone thinks there car is the fastest on the road and will give no respect to anyone who's car makes power or makes up some excuse of how they missed second because there computer isn't set right. :/

i know your just joking, but its a drivers preference if you read carefully i said redicuous things with NO engine mods. the whole point of this post was to say rice is an acronym for race inspired cosmetic enhancements, meaning the owner wanted the car to look fast, but only upgraded the car cosmetically. A real rice is all show and no go, an import with a giant turbo isnt a rice to me, because power is power, no matter where you get it from.

Just a question where did you get that acronym? I agree with you on the rice being used to much thing but I always thought it came from the greaser bikers of the late 60's early 70's to describe guys that rode imported bikes from Japan and not the harley's and road hogs of america, and that it caught on in the car world to describe under powered economy cars from japan being used as race cars.

hmm, thats actually a pretty good question. My mom and dad owned a custom body shop (the did custom air brushing and etching) when i was little, growing up I always thought it was common knowledge between mostly any car entusiasts

Nope never heard of it being an acronym guess it is just different interpretations. My dad used to be in a bike gang and he heard me say ricer one time and told me my explanation of the term.

ok. i agree all show and no go = ricer. what if you've got a turbo'd, juiced, import. yet miscolored body parts, ugly wings, ugly body kits, everything you see on a typical ricer. would you not consider this rice? i know i consider it rice. say theres a twin turbo mustang with one of those ricer body kits, euro lights, neon lights underneath, etc. would you consider this rice? i still do.
i think what your describing, the show and go, imports are considered tuners.

Personally, i would describe a ricer as a vehicle trying to be something it's not. IE...a V6 mustang with cobra badges....or a honda civic with a cobra r. Or a car with somthing like 150hp with one too many decals. Or someone who has a car with no power yet has a buzz-bomb exhaust that they continously rev to attract attention everywhere they go. Uneccesray things like that.

Now a civic with 400hp is by no means a ricer. Sure, its a civic. Civics generally have bad reputations as being ricers becuase so mnay people make them that way. Now its not the kind of car i'd waste my time modifying to make 400hp, but if it has that kind of power its a fairly quick car that deserves as least an ounce of respect...Even if it is a honda..
