A Moral Question

So I have a very morbid moral question that I need answered. My friend was killed in a street racing accident and his car has found a home in a nearby salvage yard. One of the few things salvageable from his car is his exhaust system and some of his engine parts and need all of it. So if I was to take it would this be wrong.

See right now I’m trying to get what I need to build a new fast mustang that I can race with. I have my old 4.6L V8 from the Cobra I wrecked in September and I could really use that exhaust because it is almost brand new.

I also want to know if it would be immoral to take the toolbox that he had in the backseat during the time he wrecked? Those are some nice tools and if I don’t take them then the salvage yard guy will.

who else will use them? would your friend want his stuff going to good use or just wasting away opportune for someone else to steal away? if you can answer these questions with: "nobody worth a shit" and "he would want them going to good use," jump on it. listen to your heart.

I would take it I am sure he would rather you have it someone he knows is going to be good to it and not just let it go to waste or to someone he didn't even know. When my friend died in his maxima all of us took something from it if we could from the shift knob (now the 4wd shift knob in my friend jeep) to a lug nut.

Alright, that's what I was thinking. I figure that I it's better me then some ricer but I wanted to check. The salvage yard guy promised to sell me the stuff dirt cheap.

The exhaust system is based around a Bassani X-Pipe but I don't remember anything else about it. The salvageyard guy said I could have it for $70 if I can pull it off myself. He told me that I could have the exhaust because very few people come in to the yard looking for an exhaust system.

With the Engine, I need the Turbochargers and I only have to pay about $50 each for them and they are in great condition. I also need the headers and the radiator since my engine is still only using a cheap aftermarket replacement and I can have a both the headers ad the radator for $150.

So I get everything my car needs for $320 dollars. Is that a steal or what?

As others have said, your friend would rather you have the parts than a stranger. Take the parts and keep his memory with your car.

One last thing I would add here is certainly the respect is due and I'm sure he would prefer you have them over a stranger, but also in respecting and honoring him, also respect what you are doing in terms of racing, it is fun and I will be the first to admit that, but always be cognizant of reality and be safe, you said he was in a street racing accident so I would say to let this unfortunate event be an eye opener as well, it is fun, but you have to be safe and try to do it at the track if possible.

Don't mean to dull the mood, but certainly don't take it for granted.

Take care and sorry to hear about your friend.
