Need Help For Upcoming Race

I've been challenged by a guy I know who owns a 2006 Chevy Extended Cab truck with a v8 in it. So far as everyone knows he's never lost and his truck is shitin' fast (pardon my redneck lingo). I'm not sure but I dont think he's modded it any (thats just the impression I get from him and everyone else). I personally wouldn't care to much if I lost but I don't to bring shame to the Mustang name or my baby (my car) by getting just blown away completly. I have a stock 98' v6 coupe and would like to know if there's anyway I could find a cheap way to get some more power (like 200-250 dollars cheap). Any help would be praised.

If it's a turbo diesel you could have problems, those things can run low 14's (or faster) with nothing but a handheld tuner.

Thanks but its a gas and I dont know why the hell its so damn fast. Also it probably has the 2500 in it and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a hand held tuner or any other mods (I think). But I hearing some pretty scary shit about his kills, worst of which a late 90's camaro with a v8 and I think he said moderatly modded to the point it would be hella formidable against most GT's (Mustangs). Hey and would any of the following help and if so how much.
Cold Air Intake
Ram Air
T-loc

I think gears would be your best bet, but they will run you a little more than you want to spend. Closer to 400-500 including getting them installed.

Oh thanks, quick question do you have to get new gears to use a t-loc or can you just use the stock ones. And also how much does cold air intake and ram air help? Iv heard its not much

A stock gas 2500 could not take a modded GT or a z28 camaro. He is either lying to you. Modded a lot. Or a turbo diesel. The gas trucks with a tuner won't shave seconds like the turbo diesels will with just a tuner.

You can get t-lok but wait for gears. Ram air won't help more then a Cai. If you want the best thing for 250 bucks get underdrive pullies.

yeah underdrive pullies and a new intake. that will be around 500 bucks and should get you about a 20hp gain i think, or adleast that what it did for my GT ,and new gears would also be a good bet

Thanks for the help. I finally learned what he has under the hood its a gas 2500 High Output motor packing 300 horses and Im not quite sure how much torque he has and I was right no mods have been done to since his daddy bought it for him new (can you say spoiled). And he did beat a v8 camaro but the shit about it being modified was just plain bull, he did beat a v6 camaro though that was slightly modded it had cold air intake, possibly ram air, and I'm guessing maybe a few more small or insignificant ones (actually near the in the end it pulled up and almost beat him). Go ahead and call me stupid but what is a CAI and what do underdrive pulleys do and how much does each cost and how difficult to install. Also the v6 camaro I mentioned above do I stand a chance against it (if it has ram air as its only mod) if so how much a chance.

lol yeah...ppl tend to over state their kills....CAI-cold air intake...prolly around $100-120....for a name brand but you can make your own it all depends on what you want...

under drive pulleys help take stress off the motor...pulling a lil more hp out by lettin the crank move faster and easier....kit prolly around $90-150
most you have to do is prolly get a new belt...shorter....some sockets to take off the pullies put them back on and route the belt so that everything is still moving in the direction it is intended...lol

as for the V-6 camero...get the intake and it should be down to the driver...lol race him with about below half a tank of gas dont fill up and race him for the weight and it should be all about the driver...lol

Upgrades for my car in order to beat the spoiled ass hole.

Ok so CAI is cold air intake. I was told it only gives you around 5 horses max but that was from that spoiled ass hole who I'm going to race, so how much does it really help? Also whats your oppinion on me vs. the spoiled rich ass hole with the truck.

P.S. I found a CAI on a legitimate site for 69.99 it said it was specifically for the v6 (possibly specifically for the mustang v6) does the fact that its cheap make it not as much of a help as a more expensive one. Heres a link to the site I saw it on.http://www.americanmuscle.com/94-98-...r-intakes.html

I have that one only for 00 it is good. you will need a better gasket though mine didn't fit right. The CAI won't help the truck and if he beat a v8 camaro the guy in the camaro can't drive at all.

if it is a 2500 it should have the 6.0 wigh is closer to 350 i believe. the 5.3 is 320 and i dont think you can get it in a 3/4 ton truck, not 100% but pretty sure. there is no way he can get a z28 or a mustang gt, not even stock ones. dont get me wrong because they are quick and you might have your hands full but i had a 2000 v6 before and i would race it in a heatbeat (i was stock). if you want cheap power cai, udp, and p&p t/b. other than that you look at header back exhaust, tuning, boost/spray, etc.

it might have given me like 1 hp but it is for for better air flow. Also my throttle response increased a lot which is very nice. It is the gasket that connected the pipe that went into the fenderwell to my MAF. The flange on the pipe was bigger than the on on my MAF so it didn't seal right. I just made one out of silicon glue.

Cool. Thanks Faleen. Also what is a p&p t/b, is it some brand of turbo. And what is the diference between a turbo and a super charger which of the two is cheaper and easier to install.

it is a ported and polished throttle body it just has some of the metal on the inside shaved out for less turbulence in the air. Turbo runs off exhaust and a s/c is belt driven. S/c is cheaper just cause there is less piping.
