Got my first ticket......parents not happy

I was on my way to lowes to get some sand paper and a honda civic pulls up next to me and revs. I dont do anything back. He keeps trying to race me for another mile or so. I dont do anything.

So, a street light ahead of me turns yellow, I down shift to 2nd and tickle the gas. WELL THE LITTLE RICE BURNER GUNS IT AND BLOWS MY DOORS OFF. Then a pair of blue and red lights start to follow me...........

I have court on the 8th.

Driving without proof of insurance and careless driving. 7pts.

I go get my car from the impound lot tomorrow.

Is it careless driving or reckless driving?

I suggest you get a attorney ASAP, because if they impounded your car it is probably a misdemeanor criminal traffic offence.

That means when on any job application or anything else where it asks if you have been convicted of any crimes you have to list that.

If your record is clean other than this, and you have an attorney you should be able to get it dropped to a lesser charge.

Its a new car, I didn't have plates on it/temp.tag or the B.O.S. with it, so they took it to the impound until I could proove its mine.

I do have insurance but I didn't have the slip in the car.

They gave me a Careless driving and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Its a real bummer.

I just looked it up, and both are misdemeanor offenses in CO.

It would be a very good idea to get a good lawyer now.

The insurance will be dropped in court immediately if you show proof that you had it when this happened...

the other part well, that I would hire an attorney for.

Yeah I have insurance and that will be dropped. Its the first time I have ever had a brush with the law so hopefully I can talk w/ the D.A. and they can take it to speeding under 10 because I wasn't trying to race, I just tried to make a light by going 5 over. I understand how it could seen as a race so I would understand if they dont drop it to speeding.

It will go down to 2pts. But if the careless stays then it will stay 4pts and I'll only have 2pts left.

They towed it cause I didn't have plates/my licence/ bill of sale with me. So them towed the car.

I cant afford an atterney, I can barely afford to get my car out tomorrow. Its gonna cost me $250. My mom wont help me so....I guess i'm screwed.

when going to court if you dont suck at school i would show the judge your grade, tell them you have a job and you need the car for work, and if not pleedd da fifffff

I have decent grades, a 3.0 Average, I was near the place I work so....I guess

First how fast did they get you going? Not how fast you were going how fast does the ticket say?

Im not going to come straight out and call you a lier but man your story seems.....off

If you did race him just come out with it we're not going to flame you to bad, and how fast were you really going? What was the speed limit?

Second, technically it is your fault bro, you should of just stopped what if a car would of pulled out or something and you smashed it and killed a kid?

We all learn, I learned the hard way by demolishing my moms car so I know from experience.

Like you HAD NO TAGS on the vehicle? Thats asking to be pulled over

In colorado you have a Aministy day, between the time you purchase the car and the closest day the DMV is open. In that time your able to drive your car WITHOUT TAGS/PLATES OR REGISTRATION. My fault was to not have my bill of sale with me or my proof of insurance. If I had that i wouldn't have gotten in so much trouble. I knew it was my fault the whole time. i just have to chalk it up tp experience!

Anyway so why did you say try to get them to knock it down? Speeding to under 10? Im kinda lost on this if you were not given a ticket. (just trying to figure it out)

Yep and we all have to learn lol, some hard some easy most of my experiences are learned the hard way to LOL

Well because in colorado speeding under 10 is only 2pts. The tickey I have now with the careless driving is 4pts.

The cop hit you with careless driving because he couldn't prove you were racing, whether he thought you were or not. Lookup the statute on the citation and see if it applies to what you were actually doing. Problem is, a lot of statutes are vague, leaving a big gray area for the court to decide whether or not you are guilty or not.
