Dude, that looks bad too. I'm at a loss of words on this one. My hearts with the family on this one and I hope he rests in peace.

As sad as this is, it goes to show that no matter what precautions you take either on the strip or the streets, their is no such thing as safe. Always a fatal risk no matter what. I hop everyone keeps this simple fact in mind every time they roll on the throttle.

Does anyone have any details on the car? I'm just trying to picture how this happened? It said he was ejected and looking at the pictures the car is damn near vaporized. Its kind of mind boggling how something like this happened. I've seen alot of cars crash in excess of 120 mph and some as fast as 170 mph and have never seen a car damaged that bad. Scary shit! So young too. My thoughts are with his family.

Went through the 1/8th at a mere 111 walking it side to side and lifted right after the 1/8th and continued to try to steer it straight, but by then the rear kicked out to the left and he slid a few hundred feet sideways and the car grabbed and went into the opposing lane and front first into the opposite guard rail (I would estimate at around 100 mph) ramped the rail, the driver's side hit the inside pole of the scoreboard about 8 feet up.
^ That's how man, that's a quote from the site the link goes too. Not many cars survive shit like that. The side of the car is the car's weakest point. Usually at that speed a side hit will cut the car in half. Lost my friend in a very similar accident. It's a shame man, it really is. He kept it legal but that didn't help him in the end.

That is why I asked. I've seen cars crash at speeds much higher than that and not look anything like that. Curiousity has me on this one.

This car crashed at 140+

Here is an animation of the crash

That could have had a roll cage and plus most of the damage is centered in the front.

On that site ^ there's a picture of a mustang that side swipped a tree at 70 miles an hour and I think it demonstrates what I'm trying to say the best.

The car I posted had a 10 point cage. That is why I asked if anyone knew any details about the car in question. I'm curious as to how he was ejected and how the car ended up like it did. I feel like I'm repeating myself......

It really sucks to see something like that happen. It should make everybody think more about safety because this can happen to anyone at any given time. A lot of people complain about safety rules in the NHRA but they are there to protect us. I have seen a lot of really fast cars go down the track without roll cages in the car knowing they will only get one run in before they are asked to leave. Even with all safety requirements met, it is a very dangerous sport. Without safety requirements met it's suicide.

it is a horrible thing to loose a fellow enthusiast, but just think what might have happened if he hadn't been on a controlled track. it could have been him and a car full of kids or worse

i dont know if anyone has details but im sure he had a 10 pt cage seeing as how fast he was going and the track would have made him have all the safety precautions. who knows man its a horrible wreck. but like you said about the 170+mph wrecks, this weekend i saw a wreck at about 180mph at the track. and both guys survived but the cars were in bad shape. but not so bad that it meant it went to the scrapyard.

That's harsh. My condolences to his family. What did him in was the pole. Back in my tow truck driving days, I have seen more than one car slam into a pole sideways for one reason or another, and when you do that, there is not too many vehicles that can survive it. More often than not, if you broadside a pole at high speed, the car will wind up in pieces. It's like smashing a baseball bat into a linebackers knee; he might be a big, strong guy, but hit from the side like that & it doesn't matter.
