Here is my take on this arguement. Considering that I have owned both a 2005 Subaru WRX STi and a 1990 Ford Mustang. I would have to say that I have first hand knowledge of how fast these cars are.
OK, at the one track event that I went to. I managed to catch and pass a 2000-2003 Ford Mustang Saleen. I caught him in a straight away, and pulled away in the turns. He never even came close to catching up to me for the rest of the day. Now, at the this same very track, Reno-Fernley Race Way, the fastest times that are posted at the track events are from STI's. |

As far as drag no the STI's aren't impressive they are mid-high 13's on a GOOD day.
But they are made for the corners, I know for a fact that they would show a GT500 their taillights in the twisties. |

For all of the money your buddy put in his STI making it 500 hp, I would have bought a BMW m6 instead of the car and mods. Yeah...it's only got 386 hp stock, but I'd get way more pussy then an STI. I base this off of the previous thread on mods to an STI that has 337 hp.

I do a lot of autocrossing with a few STI owners...and I have to say outside of the miata...the STI's take the twisties...I drive a V6 but have been up to grid with a few GT's and the STI's usually take it...Also really depends on the mods...but in a straight line...the STI is pretty slow stock.

STI's launch good but get overwhelmed once rolling, a little 4 cylinder trying to turn 4 wheels in a not so light car..... ouch!

thats odd, b/c theres a guy who autocrosses his STI with just a weld on muffler and a K&n drop in filter stock style replacement ripped of 12.9, 12.8, 12.7 and a few more 12.8's at his 2nd outing at a drag strip.
