Which Mustang Is King Of Performance

i keep hearin gt500 this and that and how bad ass they are,
i got into a fairly long winded debate with a friend over the cars and it spaned from the fox body stangs to the terminators and ended up with the Cobra R (he kept sayin the GT500 was better then the others).
so now i want to see what other people think that the copy cat car is really the best of the best

If your not including the price of performance here my vote goes the the gt500. Mod for mod, there is no other mustang that outperforms it.

In everything but drag racing, I would go for the Cobra.

the cobra R runs high 12s at the track, so that means the GT500 is only good for the straights in my book and that just done cut it

Uhm the GT500 pulls .9 G's on the skidpad. That's a pretty nice number for a 4000 lb. beast.

don't the 05+ pull that?

my 03 was rated at .88 or .89. I would think the GT500's would be atleast .92

That's an average of a bunch of different tests I have read. Different tests will yield different results given a different driver, weather conditions, and track surfaces.

The regular S197 pulls about .88 on the skidpad.

I may be a little bias but the best all around car would be the terminator. Easy to mod like the gt500. Lighter than the GT500. Has the best drag coefficient compared to other mustangs especially with the ground effects. The Cobra R follows close behind but looses due to its rareness.

In my opinion the only thing the "R" can REALLY do better than the Shelby is handle. The "R" is a corner carving beast. While the GT500 isnt as quick on its feet. it would not take alot of cash to get the handeling up there. I seen a thing on the Speed channel similar to this not too long ago. They where comparing a Stage 3 Roush to a '07 GT500. They tested them head to head and the Roush was a full 3 secs faster than the shelby on the road course but the sheby blew the roush off the drag strip.

Just my .02 cents worth!

Okay, so how much are we talking in mods to get the Shelby to handle? I mean, you already paid upwards of $70K for the thing, now you've got to dump, what, $2K? $3K? $5K? into your suspension? Plus, how much weight reduction do you need to do? 4000 lbs is SUV territory. You're gonna have to pull a lot of soundproofing out to get this thing down to fighting weight.

Meanwhile, to make the Cobra R take out the shelby in the straights, all you need is a little boost. If we're talking drag racing, you could either hit it with a 150 shot of NOS, or if you don't feel like cheater-juice, you could just get some boost going.

Or you could just get a notch-back Fox-body, drop in a terminator and full race suspension, and beat 'em both at both of their games

How does rarity make the car less in terms of performance???
